At this stage the sprouts (kinda early to call them seedlings at this stage) will need 60 days in “nursery” conditions. No strong wind, bottom watering, light (depending on the substrate) fertilizer, and some babying.I also do have some at this stage. Will we have time to collect the tobacco this season?
Then they will be ready to transplant.
After that it’s the maturity date till flowering, plus about 21 days (30-45 for Rustica) for post-topping maturation.
Small Stalk Black Mammoth takes about 60 days. Trabzon-2 takes about 50 days. I’m using containers, so that will speed things up some.
If my Kentucky tobacco goes well, I may be able to “double crop”- get the sprouts grown and into containers with enough time to get some growth out of them. I may have to top them early, which makes a very lung-busting smoke, but since I’m making chewing tobacco, it’s not a problem. The Trabzon-2 may end up as indoor windowsill plants.
I’m really racing a frost expected around November 11. I’m trying to get everything done in October, since the temperature is a bit low for tobacco to do much by then.
When is 10C and below weather expected where you are growing? (Plants slow down around that temp.). If the math works for your area- you can get a crop.
