I lived in Ramstein village (Rhineland Pfalz) for three years. I recall the day that everyone in our building on the Ramstein Air Base ran to the windows that faced west. The sun had come out after raining for weeks!

One Sucker is turning out to be one of the most robust seedlings I’ve grown- it’s very close to a Rustica in its speed. Time for the first haircut.
Some of the leaves on these are like thick cabbage leaves, already!

I should start up a few more, my Rustica's are all turning ripe on me, I think I must have messed up the timing. Maybe I will do that tonight, figure out what's left time wise, and start a few my Rustica's are very small and they're nearing the end of there reproductive cycle.
Rain or not Johnny, your gardens out producing mine easily. I think I better start a second wave to try and get enough good leaf for snuff. Your window and balcony are inspiring me to try and raise the bar, 108. And thanks for your service Johnny 108

A second crop is always worth trying for.
If the frost dates are too close, you can always top them early and still get something. For snuff, this is no problem, but for smoking tobacco, it can make a rather lung busting smoke.

I know what you are thinking- his first crop of Drosgi Black-Blue flowered early, but he had a back up crop of Small Stalk Black Mammoth.
But what if the Mammoth went bad?

I've done a few tests in my aquaponic pipes with x random strain (sorry, don't remember which but i've only ever had 8 kinds: Rustica, Tabacum, Tabacum+ (cross breed with burley i think), virginia gold, harrow velvet, del gold, maryland and golden burley. Whichever seedlings i had in the pipes did extremely well, and were only really limited by size of the system.
My aquaponic system is indoors and made for small veggies. However, i ended up not redoing the experiment once i learned that nicotine is produced in the roots, and that some might seep into the water - as reported seeping into the soil in many articles - which spells death for my fish and everything else in the tank.
Bottom line though is that i can attest that hydroponic tobacco works extremely well for growth speed. I never got to test the plants though, as they didn't survive the transition back to soil (one did, but never really recovered properly).
I've never seen plants transition well from hydro into soil, except for tobacco seedlings. The Float Tray system is, essentially, a hydroponic system. It definitely works for fast growth, and I had good luck, flavor-wise with an oriental (Xanthi) last year.
I'm hoping to get the same good flavor from dark tobaccos, as well as high nicotine. Gonna have to test for burn characteristics, too, in order to help out the forum! (I mostly make chewing tobacco).

Transferred my 4 biggest One Sucker seedlings to bigger pots, and put them on the balcony to harden them off a bit.
They are windowsill grown, so sun isn’t a problem, but the wind and rain can beat them down.
