I swore I wouldn’t do this but, starting seeds is harder to quit than smoking, dipping, etc…..
Started 2 green trays of Sultan of Albania rustica, 1 green tray of Drosgi Black-Blue, and 2 green trays of Yellow-109.
The Sultan of Albania is to compare it to last year’s Lemonka, which was very popular as a cigarette. The Drosgi BB is because every time I’ve tried it, it’s flowered early (in the seed trays once), and I want to see what it’s like when it works!
The Yellow-109 is for “filler”- any space I can find with bare ground will get one, because it’s fast. It’s also not a big yielding plant, so it’s not worth the expense of potting mix.

Edit: started a 12-pack tray of Xanthi, because looking at my balcony plants, and seeing the big leaves makes me wonder, with my water/fertilizer regimen, if I could get the smaller leaves with better
Flavor by using smaller containers. These Xanthi will be planted into the small square black pots like the Burley above is in, only 3” on a side, but left there, and windowsill grown, to see if smaller, more flavorful leaves can be had.

Being in Germany, I prefer to think of it as “lebensraum gardening”….though my German wife says this is not politically correct.

I transferred the last ten Trabzon-2 sprouts to a seedling tray, and, on a hunch that they can handle it, watered them in with full strength triple-20 fertilizer with Epsom salts.
I might try flue curing this year, so extra bright leaf will definitely be helpful.IMG_4398.jpeg

Did you pot all of your plants with a stake? Just curious.
I used to, but wind whipping the leaves around would cause the stake to puncture the leaf and make curing uncertain, so I’m trying to avoid using them this year.
This plant just didn’t want to stay upright. Once it grows taller, I’ll put in a longer stake, to avoid the leaf getting punctured by it.

They are pretty small, due to being in a small 12-pack green seedling tray, which is now freed up for the (extra) Herzegovina Flor and Canik seeds I started in germination pots, last night.
L-R: Canik, Herzegovina Flor, Xanthi
The Xanthi is for my “Bonsai project” in an attempt to produce the small leaves with the highest quality and flavor.IMG_4531.jpeg

Bonsai tobacco?! I’ll be interested to see how that turns out.
I’m hoping to get enough seedlings to try 2 different container sizes.
The black square pots are 3”/8cm square, and 3.5”/9cm tall: they fit in a 12-pack tray.
The purple container is 4.33”/11cm across and 2.75”/7cm deep: they fit in a 6-pack tray with a bit more dead space between the containers.
It will be an exterior windowsill grow.
Stay tuned!IMG_4545.jpeg
