I just read about a new Canadian flue cured tobacco and thought I would start a thread to deposit information about new varieties. Maybe one day we will gain access to them.

This entry is for CTH144 F1 Hybrid. Yield was between that of Delgold and CT157, and quality was superior to both.

EDIT: According to the text which I can't fully post due to intellectual rights, yield for Delgold is still superior, (3666kg/ha for Delgold, and 3381kg/ha for CTH144) but they consider it a better economic producer because of the higher quality it produces (grade index of 77 vs 63). Total alkaloids = 3.56, total reducing sugars = 18.22.
CTH144 is a cytoplasmic male-sterile flue-curedtobacco hybrid with resistance to Tobacco Mosaic Virus(TMV). It was produced from a cross of an improvedmale-sterile inbred parent and a normal fertile breedingline (13M104) that has genetic resistance to TMV. Thefemale parent is a cytoplasmic male-sterile version ofthe cultivar CT572, which was developed and registeredfor commercial production in Canada (Haji et al. 2002)from a cross between a breeding line designated as86TB5-2 and the U.S. cultivar K149. The female parentwas developed at the Canadian Tobacco ResearchFoundation through backcrossing of the cultivar CT572with a male-sterile breeding line withNicotiana glaucaGraham cytoplasm. This conversion was done to facili-tate hybrid seed production.

CT8 is a flue cured variety; a cross between research line 93CV157-3 (CT157) and Delgold, made in 1998 at the Delhi Research Farm, in Ontario, and released for use in 2013.
Its grade index is slightly higher than Delgold, and its yield is slightly lower. Less suckering than Delgold, a couple inches shorter when topped at 18 leaves, 12.7% lower alkaloids, 6.4% lower sugars, same flowering time.

CT157 is a cross between Delgold and K326. It was made public in 2000.

CTH14 is a flue cured variety that outperforms Delgold in both quality index and yield. Total alkaloids is significantly lower 3.28% vs 3.8%, and reducing sugars is the same.

CT2 is a flue cured variety that outperforms Delgold in both quality and yield. Total alkaloids is significantly lower 2.73% vs 3.36%, and reducing sugars for CT2 is about 10% higher. It is significantly more resistant to black root rot.

Interesting information, but since many of them are F1 hybrid, they might not be very interesting for home growers.
Or are they stabilized ?
