Greetings to all! My name is David Miller. I’m a retired US Navy veteran currently living in Oklahoma. I am originally from York County, PA and because of my time in service lived in Italy, Virginia, Nevada and California. In December of 2018, my family and I moved to be closer to my wife’s family who all pretty much live in Oklahoma or Texas.

Since about 1999, my initial year of enlistment, I’ve enjoyed cigars and some cigarette. The cigarettes went away but I still enjoy the occasional cigar from time to time. At around 2014, I was gifted a pipe and some tobacco blends. Not fully certain of things, I started out enjoying aromatic blends progressing through to what I enjoy are Virginia and Va/Per blends at the moment.

A few years ago, I was gifted a DFK leaf. Not knowing what to do, I purchased some other burley and VA leaf to try a home blend. That blend is still aging in my jar. Fast forward a couple years and I was again gifted some blending tobacco. I’m now hooked on doing my own blends and have several jars aging away.

My new goal is to grow my own leaf, cure it, ferment it, mature it and blend it for future blend rotation. My hope and intention is to become more familiar with this forum and just make blends that I personally enjoy.

I hope everyone has a great day! Thank you for the addition!

Welcome to the forum. Have a look at the New Growers' FAQ, and scan through the topics in our Index of Key Forum Threads. Both are linked in the menu bar.

Hi Dave - Welcome to the forum and your new obsession hobby! If you are used to blending with commercial tobaccos, I highly recommend getting some whole leaf sample kits from WLT to experiment with during the winter. It should help you get a better idea of what you would like to grow come spring and get used to processing raw leaf. Have fun!

Although not a bad idea, it should be noted that if you wait until spring to order your seeds, you may miss the beginning of the growing season!

Have fun!

Welcome. Thank you for joining us.
Many thanks y’all for pointing me in the direction I should be heading in. This helps out a lot.

I’ll revisit getting WLT again. It’s been a few years since I last dipped my hand in that venture. Maybe getting some WL Virginias and some perique (or burley) will help me figure out in what to try and grow this upcoming spring.
