Hey guys.

So yeah, Im wondering if anyone on here has had a peripheral nerve injury and still dipped during the healing process and if so, did it interfere with healing at all?

Much thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum.

Your question addresses an issue that has been researched in animal studies. In general the primary effect of nicotine exposure during the healing of a peripheral nerve injury is to increase mechanical sensitivity.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1948068/

"There was no difference in the rate of nerve recovery based on walking track analysis in the smoke-exposed animals compared with nonexposed animals."

So, tobacco exposure during healing may make the healing process more annoying, but not delay it. You'll just be more aware of the injury while it heals.

The online suggestions to quit tobacco use in order to improve healing of peripheral nerve injury seem to lack any references to appropriate research results, and are most likely an expression of opinion on the part of the author.

thanks for that info.

i guess my question still stands to see if there is anyone out there that has dipped while recovering from a peripheral nerve injury in regards to the fact that, besides nicotine, there are many many neurotoxins in both dip and cigarettes.

so again, thanks much bob, but still wondering if there has been anyone that has dipped during the healing process of this type of injury?

Tobacco ie nicotine can stimulate the nerve. Not sure it is good or bad it depends on the situation and the injury.
