hi China Voodoo, You are right, I just saw your post after mine,
Any issues in Quebec ? I'm heading down there in three weeks to visit family, if no issues then I may order some and have it shipped there and fly back home with it.
I'm not there yet, I shipped it to my brother's. I'm, heading out there this weekend, back in a couple of weeks.Right on that's better than Ontario rates.
So did you fly back to BC with it in your luggage?
Hi, did you ever get this issue resolved. I ordered 2lb of tobacco and was charged $1876 in PST. I sent it back to customs for reassessment and then it came back with a charge of $650. Still too high for me as I’ve only ever paid less than $20 for the same amount of tobacco. I am thinking of sending it back once more for reassessment but I’m not sure how to go about it. I don’t understand what the issue is. Can you or anyone enlighten me? How do I fight this??Any updates from anyone who reached out to the various resources?
I have had no response from the taxpayer Federation so I sent them a second email.
I will call our ombudsman tomorrow or Monday.
Was hoping to have some backup from those fellow British Columbians who have been affected. It would help if it was people who have actually had the extremely high tax assessment.

I'm just as unhappy as the next person when I see how our tax dollars are being spent or to hear of the next political corruption case but nothing quite boils my blood more when government overreach interferes with my hobbies. They have completely infringed our 2A right in my state and have prevented me from getting any form of tobacco that isn't from a retailer in the state which is heavily taxed, to buy tobacco online is to bypass said laws and will result in a class C felony. [political rant removed by moderator] Sorry for the rant [additional political rant removed by moderator].Hello,
Just found out today that I cannot buy unmanufactured tobacco from Whole Leaf tobacco in Canada without a 650% pst tax! My order was $60US and CBSA wanted to charge me $752.23 PST tax!
Apparently there’s been a new law in Canada this year which allows them to charge all tobacco products unmanufactured or manufactured this ridiculous figure.
Anyone with news about this please share.
Josh
Gee, they thought of everything. Not sure about the PST situation in BC, but the new budget was dropped today, and they want to limit the importation of unprocessed tobacco leaves to 2500 grams (5 pounds) per year. This is seriously going to hurt!
Stock up while you can!
Heads Up: Canadian Budget targets Unprocessed Tobacco Leaves
Just looked at the new Canadian budget that was released today, and they are implementing a limit on the importation of unprocessed tobacco leaves of 2500 grams (5 pounds) per person per year. Considering I buy about 20 pounds every 6 months, this is going to hurt!fairtradetobacco.com
Darn it, I just remembered das Politische Kommentare sind verboten.... I do, however, share your consternation regarding additional regulations that infringe upon an individual's Civil liberties.I'm just as unhappy as the next person when I see how our tax dollars are being spent or to hear of the next political corruption case but nothing quite boils my blood more when government overreach interferes with my hobbies. Any news on BC border agents still charging for raw tobacco? I've been quite sad without my leaf. Help a piper out! We need a superman lawyer to correct this bizarre $0.65pst per gram on raw! Or we need some Canadian to start growing and selling to Canadians. This seems criminal to charge so much to British Columbia residents. I am addicted to pipe tobacco. I'll have to pay this $0.65/gram whether I want to or not. I would prefer NOT to of course. It's not even smokable without invested work. The 3.5 lbs I wanna buy is $80US on the website. If you're a BC resident though that's 1587grams x $0.65 = $1031.55
So for $100US would equate to $1000CAD. That's a X10 mark up price just for living in BC. What is going on in BC? Where is the love to the poverty stricken? We can't even enjoy a pipe of raw unmanufactured without paying times TEN. It's become a thing of the wealthy now. Who cares about the poor people addicted to nicotine. Let's make more money off them or force them to quit and be depressed. Arg this makes me sad and angry. I need a pipe to calm me and cheer me. PIPES WERE MEANT FOR CHEER! Without any leaf I've lost my cheer. It's almost as if Saruman the white came into hobbiton and started controlling all the resources. We need our hero friends of Merry, Pippin, Sam, and Frodo to help save the day. Or Robin Hood.
I grew my own once many years ago when I had land but now I have no land to farm. If I did I’d buy the $5 seeds and grow. It is a lot of fun I agree. I am just going to have to smoke way less. A bowl a day. I didn’t expect this interruption of my hobby by the government. If I did I would’ve stocked up while I could. I’d advise all Canadian pipers outside BC to do the same. Now I just have to bite the bullet and pay times ten.Don't be depressed, for a much smaller investment than the taxes on 3.5 lbs you can buy pots, grow lights, soil and grow your own. If you have access to an outside yard it would cost even less, plus lots of fun and satisfaction growing your own tobacco.
