This is my first post as I just joined FTT today. If anyone reading this had some deer tongue they could send me ... 1/2 oz. of, I'ld gladly pay the postage+.
While noodling around the 'net a Sunday morning, I chanced across an old copy of The Tobacco World (vol 56). The July 1, 1936 issue, at page, 17, has a headline "Czechoslovakia Reports". There are brief descriptions of the State monopoly on tobacco and the following:
American Lulkovy, containing only foreign tobaccos, burley, Manilla and Java.
Maryland, which contains Maryland, Manilla and domestic growth.
Favorite consists exclusively of Virginia tobacco.
Special Mixture containing 50 per cent, of Virginia and 50 per cent, of Burley, Kentucky, Java and Latakia.
Through the graciousness of Leo Reyes, former manager of The Tinder Box (Santa Monica, CA), I have 25 issues of Pipe Lovers Magazine. Each month, a reader submitted blend was published. In later issues, the publisher even had a blending column of several pages. Soon all this will be available at Pipepedia.com in a searchable PDF format.
