Hi everyone, I’m new to whole leaf tobacco but I’ve been smoking cigars and pipes for ten years or so. Recently, I’ve been rolling my own cigars and decided to try my own take on a pigar. I roll a double toro using Nicaraguan Seco and Ligero with a leave of Dark fired to fit in my MM general. Then, I just dry store the stick and cut off lengths to slide down into my pipe when I want a quick, mobile smoke for long drives in the Jeep. Anyone else do this?

I know packing is basically instinct for most of us by now, but it sure is convenient to just drop in a “plug” of tobacco and light up. It’s kinda like a rope tobacco with almost zero prep since it takes less than a couple minutes to pre-roll a stick for 6 smokes or so. I’ve been meaning to try VAs and Latakia with this method. The overall flavor is mix between a nice Maduro cigar and ODF.

Posting from my phone. That should say “zero prep”

I've done it and found it convenient but somehow I just don't seem to do it anymore. Although I've never really bought in to the idea of "the ritual" of packing and smoking a pipe maybe my subconscious does.

I have several friends who save their cigar butts to finish smoking them in a pipe. Waste not, etc. So really what’s the difference? I think it’s a great idea. I’m all about convenience. (y)

Manil_bouchon.JPG

Bouchons from Vincent Manil, in Belgium.

My pipes sit around in racks, inside my house. A pipe that has been used to smoke cigar leaf subsequently smells like a stale cigar butt.

I think a home-made bouchon, made from a pipe blend is a perfectly reasonable thing. I've made long-filler English/Balkan blend cigars, wrapped in Lemon Virginia. (I prefer it as a shred that I manually pack into each bowl, rather than as a bouchon or cigar.)

I can’t believe I’d never heard of a bouchon. I smoke semois from Vincent Manil occasionally, and never came across them. I agree that the pipe stinks of stale cigars, so it hangs out in the garage. I’d never smoke cigar leaf in my meers, though they’d probably clean right up after a couple of bowls of Epiphany or Carter Hall. I was just curious about how common it was. I’d heard of people nubbing their stogies in a pipe, but never rolling a cigar specifically for the pipe. Looks like it used to be popular in Europe, just not anymore. Thanks y’all!
