So, I am planning on growing plants to do an American "Camel Wide" style clone.... but hopefully better. I do like their old recipe with more Oriental/Turkish tobacco. Obviously, I am going for that nice mild flavor. In addition, I hope to use some of the same plants to produce some pipe tobacco (I love aromatics like RLP6 and Trout Stream, etc.). With that in mind, what do you think about growing the following in Northeast PA:

*using a blend of:
60 % flue cured Gold Leaf 939 (Virginia)
30% Harow Velvet (Burley)
10% Black Sea Samsun (Oriental/Turkish)

Cloning commercial cigarette taste is usually not possible, since the manufacturers add an assortment of chemicals and flavorants. Your proposed blend appears to be a typical "American" cigarette blend. Your specific crop year, specific curing methods and priming levels will be more determinant of your final taste and aroma than the exact percentages.

I would lower the burley % and increase the Samsun accordingly, Camels were originally meant to be milder than a “regular” American blend hence the addition of “Turkish” tobacco.
I’ve smoked commercial Camels for years, but the ones marketed in Europe are heavily cased with licorice, never tried an American original one.
