I can tell those who might be interested that I tried a snus made from the Rustica I grew this season and it is pretty good actually.
Can't leave any characteristics on form of flavor or taste just yet think something is going to turn up in a matter of time.

I did a late sprout of Sacred Cornplanter, and it's going crazy! Only a 50 day grow cycle. Supposed to be smooth, but loaded with Nicotine. I want to try out that Red Russian over at Northwood seeds, I bet it has a big nicotine kick. I was looking at that for my winter grow, and another one. It's still 95*F in Arizona, and the plants are agreeing with the temperature drop. "Baccy doesn't like 100+F too well. This is turning out to be an interesting Fall season already. We just had 6" of rain last week. I think this state is going to be the New Florida!

There is quite a story to that Sacred Cornplanter , more than you can ever believe Dave.
Just make a search for Cheif Cornplanter + Sacred Cornplanter Tobacco on Google and you'll find a most interesting story I promise you.
He was an Iroquois warrior during the American Revolution who late in life grew tobacco on land granted to him by the state of Pennsylvania.
I was given this story by a member of the forum and was amazed by it.

Chief Cornplanter most certainly smoked his tobacco in a pipe.

I planted some Cornplanter this year, barely grew. Got a few seeds, but no leaf worth harvesting.

Smell from making snus in my oven made me come up with an idea , one of the neighbors had to hold her breath when passing my apartment.......
The idea is a simple roasting bag , had the batch inside the bag and just folded the end under the batch. ( The batch in the pic is made ready and sealed with tape)
No smell what so ever.
Just terrific.

I was as a matter a fact actually thinking about it leverhead , but as it was I already had the snus in the batch and didn't have the edge to quit that......
Might do like that next time , we'll see , the batch is good to have when I take it out from the oven each day to stir in it , might be different doing the same thing in the bag.
When searching for the idea , I could read that some guys here making their so called snuskits did use a roasting bag to minimize the smell.
No comparison made between their and my tobacco.

Mixing might be easier in just the bag. I've mixed epoxy in plastic bags, it actually does a better job. Snus is more like a paste, I would think a rolling action would mix it up well enough.

The batch is very good to have since it's more steady-sturdy when I pack the tobacco with a spoon to sort of keep it moist.
I figure that would not work out good in the bag alone.
But it certainly is great as a supplement.

I don't know if it's such a good idea to keep it covered up while it's cooking. The whole process of making snus from raw tobacco is that it's like a forced ageing process where you need to let all the ammonia type compounds evaporate off. If it's completely sealed up then these gases can't escape and will be driven back in to the tobacco ... I suspect that this batch will take longer ageing to come good if my hunch is right.

Basically I think of that horrible smell in the processing as taking those flavours out of my tobacco so that I don't have to taste it in my snus!

I will use the roasting bag ahead and see if I can notice any difference in quality/flavor , if it dosen't meet my standards the bag will not be used again.
If I notice no difference after ageing , the roasting bag comes to be standard equipment with me.
Much could be won by having a scent/odorless environment.

I do not perceive the smell/odor from my own tobacco as horrible , quite the opposite actually.

Really? Do you not get an ammonia type smell from your tobacco when you are cooking it? I always do get a little - and when I add the Sodium or Potassium Carbonate it comes off in clouds that make me choke! Sure - it's a sign that the chemical reaction in the recipe is working ... but I don't consider it a nice smell!

Could it have something to do with we are using different degree's in the oven you reckon John ?
I add the potash carbonate after the heatprocess , in my case after 1 week.

Been grinding unusually hard this weekend , yesterday afternoon was really something when I had 2 kilos ( 4.4 Ibs ) made , runnin smooth now I must add , guess one has learned to feed the grinder just about what it can swallow.........
And today a bit more than 1 kilo ( 2.2 Ibs ) was done with , according to my simple calculations I'm up to just over 7 kilos totally and have some ( 15-20 % ? ) leaf to work with.
Started watching a new movie ( streaming ) last night , namned : The Homesman , featuring Tommy Lee Jones amongst a few others and I remember Tommy saying a specific line : '' Get your mind to it and just do it ''
