Since I accidentally cooked some seeds at 85C (185F) for about 18 hours I decided to plant them and see if their germination was affected. I planted all 6 varieties including 2 controls (not subjected to high temps) As you can see in the picture the high temperature greatly affected the germination rate. The good news is that enough seeds germinated for me to say that the high temperature greatly reduced the germination rate but did not prevent it. The seeds were planted very thick so as to form a mat when they sprung up.

From left to right are: Yellow Orinoco, Bucak, Alida, Samsun Maden, Silver River, La Palma Havana. The 2 controls are the last 2 on the right, they are: Alida and Duzce.

Amazing. So, you could have baked tobacco seeds in a casserole, and the seeds would later germinate beneath the outhouse.

Very interesting. No more worrying about seeds left in the truck... So how did they get this hot?
