Last summer I got my plants in the ground late, probably late June, and started pulling suckers off the Ahus around august. I let them go a while so the suckers were 6-8 inches. I took some, fresh off the plant, and hung them in my kitchen in a bundle. They dried green but have since turned mostly brown (within 4 months or so though they have continued darkening) with a slight green caste and they smell absolutely wonderful, to me a very classic "pipe" tobacco sweet smell of dried fruit, honey and the like but with a definite tobacco character. The leaves are slightly translucent, with a slightly oily/waxy surface.

They have been at very low case most of the time, normal indoor humidity, 60-70 degrees mostly. Since I don't have much experience with curing or with commercial tobacco I'm hoping that someone has some insight to what sort of process this result might be similar to, so I can relate it better to the things I am reading about and possibly emulate it to a degree since it seems to be a good treatment for the Ahus.

Thank you!

You have successfully air cured suckers in your kitchen, not an easy task you accomplished there since you started with green leaves. Air curing true (and mature or, even better, ripe) leaves will be easier.

Edit: probably the higher temperature and humidity of a kitchen have helped
Cool, thank you. I wondered if it was just an air cure or describable as something beyond that. I know the Ahus is traditionally an air cure strain from what I have read and the leaves in my barn are getting to a nice brown as well but much more of a matte leather shade. I suppose that's due in part to the difference between suckers and true leaves.

Thank you
