Burley often has a thick stem at the base of each leaf, so I will usually string individual leaves back-to-back, front-to-front, with the stems touching or nearly touching. That is in my environment. If the temp is lower or more humid, then space them farther apart.

In recent years, I have stalk-cut and stalk-cured my burley. When first hung, each stalk requires enough separation to avoid breaking the turgid leaves. After a day or three, once the leaves have wilted, those stalks can be moved closer together.

There are a nice smell in my livingroom..sorry it cant be sent ..but you all now it well :)
The Burleys are now hanging on there new place . They are huge .. im only half done ..there will be a full house soon.
Wat do you string your leaves with ..I cant stop wondering if there could be a bad taste from it if I use metal wire ..

I routinely use 17 gauge (1.15 mm) aluminum electric fence wire (for fencing livestock). Since the wire punctures the stem, there is really no contact with the lamina. My local farm store sells it in 500 foot rolls. [Steel wire, regardless of plating, will rust, and is far more troublesome to cut and bend.]

Ill se if I can find some here..last yer I used wire from my welding machine 0,8 mm very strong . My worry is the moist in contact with the wire ..will it be sucked out in the leaves when drying

I use modified wire clothes hangers. They seem to have a small measure of anti corrosion coating on the wire. They will show small signs of corrision after a few years but I haven't noticed any negative side effects.

Forecast say rainstorm ..Take a chance ..yep
I stok harvest Xanthy , Bafra and Samson. They have grown way to big ..next yer I will use containers . Or simply dig away the top soil in the bed.
The most turkis like leaves comes from samson very alike. I hope I like the taste of Xanthy ..there are many and they are big :)
Tried to dry some leaves under glass ..I now think to understand what happens when they (the turks) harvest green leaves and hang them for sun curing .
Still standing ..3 out of 12 Izmir.. the rest lost to the frost.
Afrika red ..they are slow ..no flower yet
Shirey ..gets a 2 nd chance ..tried it last yer ..but it tasted awfull ..Think it was "grey " tobacco.
Then just the cleaning ..I leave 2 rows of burley ..fore a 2nd grow ...like all the other ...just for fun.:)

The closer you plant Orientals, the smaller they grow. I would suggest planting Xanthi 6" (15 cm) apart and the Bafra and Samsun 9" (23 cm) apart.

Bob
Then Bafra and Samson was plantet almost right ..have a litle problem with my nabowife.. she overwater ...also my garden ;) Ill plant them another place next yer. Thanks Bob.

The weather is going qreazy ..rain rain and more rain ..I have trouble getting my leaves dry . I have 2/3 of my golden Burley shredded but its wet... I supose it must be at 10 -12 % before I can store it.
Next yer I will focus on the oriental ..I am surprised they just hang there and matures .Suncured ..nope .Still I hope the best.:)
