Shade and sun grown Comstock Spanish

Here's the visual difference between sun grown and shade grown plants. Comstock Spanish plants are planted together with CT Shade to see the difference. As seen in the photos, sun grown plants have more dark green colored leaves than shade grown. Also sun grown leaves are thicker. The most interesting point is, while sun grown leaves have greenish/green veins shade grown leaves' veins are nearly white and narrower. All planted at the same time.

I'm not sure if they'll be very suitable for being wrappers but it worths to give a try. I just wanted to see the difference.

I shade grew Comstock Spanish last year and mine is an excellent wrapper. So good in fact I am almost out of it. The good news is there is more in this years grow. This year I am going to top a couple of plants to see whether the leaf is of the same quality.

Nice comparison.

Looks like physical size of the plants/leaves are similar but for the thickness/color.

With the sun plant budding, Will be interesting to see if the shade plant ends up having more curable leaves and how much difference in flavor there is in the resulting smoke.

I doubt you will notice much of a difference between the two when you go to smoke them. I've grown a lot of varieties in shade and sun and the only difference I've ever noticed is the thickness of the leaf.

Nice work. I'm trying the same this year. I didn't want to do wrappers in shade but decided this morning to do exactly what you did, plant the same tobacco in the shade and sun to to see what the difference between the two will be. Will keep you posted. Only planting in December.

I don't know about sun grown but all the leaf I grow is light weight, stretchy and pretty strong. Good wrapper all.
