As summer comes to a close (in a month),and I start to get ready to roll a lot of cigars for next year, I was wondering if any of you rollers out there are willing to share your favorite "blends" or blends that you know are like (or close to) "major" brands.I have the lieberman dialed in for a 50 ring and have been practicing with some cheap local (Lancaster Co.) tobacco and have some decent looking and smoking cigars but I really want to get some of Don's good tobacco so I can roll some that taste like the way a good cigar should taste.Any and all recipes are welcome, but keep in mind that the tobacco will be what's on WLT's site (and BB's)

Re: Share your blend(s) %%%%%

Knucklehead's filler blend is a ratio I find ideal. If you use Dominican seco and Dominican ligero, it's closer to the up-market Dominican cigars. My preferred wrapper is Ecuador Shade, which is much milder and lighter in color than the Ecuador maduro wrapper. Both are fabulous.

Of course, I tend to alter each cigar blend with a small strip of home-grown tip leaf (Havana 263, Little Dutch, PA Red, FL Sumatra, etc.). Although I may have rolled the same cigar twice, I doubt it. I also enjoy CT Broadleaf as a binder that adds roundness and body to the smoke.

Thanks Knucks and Deluxe, those sound like good blends. And since I don't grow (yet,God help me), I won't be able to alter the blend to much. Is it my imagination or did Don just add Nicaraguan seco to his web site since I started this thread???? I swear it wasn't listed before... or it could be the gin...

I guess I like'm a little stronger. 1 leaf Nicaraguan viso, half leaf Dominican ligero, Dominican seco binder and whatever wrapper I feel like using at the time. Another strong one using baccy from closer to home; Half leaf red tip, half leaf maryland, a few random cigar scraps, bound in broadleaf. Sometimes I use a wrapper for that one but most times I don't.

My current blends for my friday afternoon which is starting early today. It's 5;00 somewhere!
100_2380.jpg

The smoker is 1 leaf dominican seco, 1 leaf dom. viso,1/2 lug huehuetenango a few scraps pa red and misc. with a fl. sumatra binder and Bonner burley wrapper.

My after dinner cigar[homade grilled catfish pattie burgers] same as above with pa. mid leaf binder and bezuki wrapper.

I spent the last year learning single wrap cigars and now My 2012 fermented homegrown is being used to add flavor as binders. I can roll a tighter cigar with the binder and the burn is still good.

Howdy Y'all!

By far my favorite blend is Black Mammoth wrapper, Penn Red binder and Havana608 as the filler. I call it my Faux Punch Rare Corojo. Another favorite is the Bezuki wrapper, Penn Red binder and equal parts habano and havana filler. This one tastes like a Partagas. Finally, An Ecuador CT Shade wrapper, WI Seedleaf binder and Monte Calme Brun and PA Broadleaf in equal parts as filler. I can't put my finger on a comparable commerical smoke, but it a really nice mild to medium flavor smoke that is creamy with a light spice, leather and a hint of almonds. The world truely is our oyster!

PS - Puttin' a shout out to BarG for some mighty good looking finos!

Last night I rolled up a half dozen cigars using Knuck's receipe minus the Ecuadar maduro wrapper with I don't have. (yet) So I wrapped and binder with Connectticut Broadleaf.Put them in the humidor for ageing except one with has a date with me and the lawn mower in hour or so.I'll let you know how it tastes,it sure as hell smells great.

Howdy Rich,

I grew all but the Ecuador CT Shade and the Bezuki wrapper. I got them from WLT. I don't know if Don's is going you be able to get anymore :( or not. Florida Sumatra is a close second. I just posted a picture of my latest finos (on my grow blog #56) - No. 3732 & Long Red, which I'm growing out for the FTT seedbank. Click on the link to see the pic.

Black Mammoth, Penn Red and Havana 608 are samples for me.

Yea it was a great cigar. In the background is my latest addition to the family. She needs no training in terrapin tracking. A natural born turtle finder. I never seen nothing like it before.I have seen adv. for dogs like this. she is half lab and half visla. To bad I had her fixed.

You can't go wrong with Huehuetenango filler, Guatemalan binder and a shade grown Florida Sumatra. If you like a non Cuban style try Little Dutch for a filler with Yellow Pryor for a binder all wrapped up in a Glessnor wrapper.

You have to be a home grower to try all that stuff. I think I got some of it. Everyone grows there own, and some have more years at it.
