I'm not sure what you are talking about. Green, uncured leaf? Fully cured leaf? Finished leaf? Manufactured tobacco product? Sufficient ethanol on the surface of a green tobacco leaf will ruin it. I am unaware of any use of ethanol in tobacco manufacturing, other than occasionally as a vehicle for adding artificial flavors.

And you should be clear about this. Automotive antifreeze is ethylene glycol, and will destroy your kidneys and kill you. Just about any chemical added to water will lower the freezing point.

Ethanol might be used in processing to clean mould from a leaf. That would be a mixture of ethanol and water. Not on green leaf, of course, but on fully cured and fermented leaf. And afterwards it should be cleaned of with water.

Any other than that I haven't seen any use of ethanol by anyone in the industry.
