Travel project around tobacco ?

Hello !
I wish to know more about tobacco, meet peoples (producer, manufacturer, seller etc etc).
I'm leaning more towards cigars, but I'm open to all kind of tobacco products.
In France i have difficulty to find informations and who to talk to.
It is why i think about travels.

First i think i would go in country with english speaker because it is a language i'm doing ok, it could be a good opportunity to improve my english skills
And french speaker country (my native language).
I think i could begin with the UK.

It is stressful because i have never traveled abroad alone
What should i think of to be well prepare for a travel ? papers, budget, places to go etc
What should i know when it come to bring tobacco with me when i comeback in France ?
