Honghua Dajinyuan was originally named Lumeiyi Tobacco. In 1962, tobacco farmers in Lumeiyi Village, Lunan County, Yunnan Province selected a single plant from the mutant strain of Dajinyuan. From 1972 to 1974, it was further selected and cultivated by the Flue-cured Tobacco Research Institute of Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Tobacco Leaf Office of Qujing Prefecture. Due to its deep red flower color, it was named Honghua Dajinyuan in 1975. This is one of the main cultivated varieties in Yunnan tobacco-growing areas and has played an important role in the development of "two tobaccos" in Yunnan.

How is the aroma and flavor?
It smelled really bad during the first three hours of steaming on the pot. After its color turned black, there would be a fruity sweetness and a hint of baked sweet potato flavor, which should be due to the Maillard reaction. I haven't tasted it yet because it is still under pressure in the iron box. I plan to take it out after pressing for two days, chop it up, then add some almond extract, and finally press it into a cake.
