I think it's a good thing for the Cuban people...something that should have been done a long time ago....

It's nice to do this for a country that don't chant "" death to America""

That sounds like a great idea. whats our choices and whats the price?

My assumption is, for that to happen one will need to discuss it with non-US tobacconists who already have decent relationships with people down in the Cuban tobacco world.

I hope WLT is the first to get it.

Cubatabaco has a choice of selling whole leaf tobacco to WLT, or selling $25 cigars to tobacconists. I don't hold an MBA, but my primitive business sense tells me that we're not likely to see whole leaf Cuban tobacco any time soon.

Yeah, when I heard this happening I was thinking after the first glut or maybe 5 years the cigars might be somewhat reasonable. The group buy is more wishful thinking than anything else, plus I'd heard from no embargo countries that Cuba has slipped in quality over the last few decades anyway so before buying 10lbs at once I'd be more comfortable paying a higher price to see for myself.

My personal experience is that their quality issues have more to do with poor rolling than tobacco flavour.

Folks with the exception of opening embassies NOTHING HAS CHANGED, we still have an embargo, you are not going to get leaf or cigars from Cuba ( except $100 worth if you can legally visit) anytime in the near future.

I may be wrong, but I don't think all this flag raising means our relations with Cuba are anything like normal. I think the steps Obama has taken so far was only what he can without Congress. I believe the trade embargo against Cuba is still in effect and only Congress can end it; not very hopeful given the current climate in Washington. Here's hoping.
