Night time here. Best time to smoke so as to not sweat so much.

Almost ran into these two ladies on my way out. They're neighbors. I didn't want to disturb them. They were on a mission to make my porch bug free. I like that.

Enjoying my Caddo Lake Fishing Blend mixed with some WhiteKnight.

Interesting and not bad, though I don't think I would do it again.

It's a mild afternoon here, so I'm having a smoke with some coffee. Enjoying my whole Leaf base blend mixed with bourbon barrel aged plumb pudding in my least favorite cob pipe. Seeing if I can find a way to enjoy it with some aromatics. So far so good.

Peterson’s 965 in a newly purchased estate Comoy’s Everyman billiard.
Update:

I enjoyed the tobacco, I think. It seemed good, but there was an odd and very unpleasant taste that came and went. I very much suspect it was some of the “restoration balm” the guy used on the pipe. In retrospect, I probably should have given it a good cleaning with alcohol before smoking it. Afterward, I used about a dozen Q-tips and a dozen or so pipe cleaners before the shank and stem were what I’d consider “clean enough”. I think the guy (local tobacco shop proprietor who does smoke pipes) just cleaned up the outside and bowl, but didn’t do a thorough deep cleaning, as I always do with estate pipes.

Obviously I need to try some 965 in a different pipe, and try something known in the Comoy’s. I really like the pipe; its size and shape are exactly what I wanted. I’m certain it will make a great smoker, I may just need to exorcise the ghost of the last few pounds of whatever was smoked in it before.

On another note, I saw an older gent (like late 80s or maybe 90ish) come in and buy a pound of Lane BCA and another pound of Black Cherry. I can’t even imagine…

Some years ago, I purchased a lovely old pipe from an antique store. Apparently the store owner felt that the old pipe was too stinky, and sprayed some sort of air freshener into the bowl. Despite my cleaning efforts, it took about a year or so for the fragrance to completely fade away.

Oof, that would be tough to get rid of. I’m a big fan of the salt and alcohol approach for the bowl.

Finally tried some Burley Tips I’ve aged for a while. Followed Bob’s instructions to slice a rolled up bunch of medium case leaves. Straight up it’s great, with a musty, earthy aroma of pure burley tobacco. Have also applied casing #2 to an an ounce and a half for a test drive. Smells as good as any commercial natural burley pipe tobacco. Will let it rest and meld for a few days and then do some home blending with other leaf I have. It’s satisfying to know that great pipe tobacco can be made at home with even a single leaf variety. Highly recommended for the veteran pipe smoker with a preference for natural and robust flavours.

This is a blend I just made, and it's heavenly. Has a huge nic hit compared to what I'm used to. I couldn't wait to try it. It hasn't had time to blend, but it's tasty and smoooooooth.

I'm calling it: Caddo Lake, Louisiana Blend
