What Pipes or Pipe Tobacco did you smoke today? (2024)

Today it’s My Mixture 965 in the Savinelli 320KS. It’s OK; I honestly like the Sutliff Sobranie match (or White Knight) a bit more. The biggest issue for me, though, is the stout nicotine in this stuff. Even after a full breakfast, half a bowl of this leaves me a bit dizzy and on the verge of queasiness. I’ll jar it and smoke it sparingly.

Enjoying a fine early autumn evening breaking in a new (to me) Ropp with some Sutliff Sobranie match. Picked this up on eBay, old but never smoked. Cleaned it up and replaced the cork in the shank and it smokes quite nicely.

I keep trying other blends, and keep coming back to this… Sutliff Sobranie match. I’ve been smoking some Peterson 965, which I find rather flat and lacking complexity. Bought a tin of Orlik Golden Sliced, which is nice for a straight VA (or nearly straight) but I find that I just love my Oriental and Latakia. This stuff just checks all the boxes for me.
Oh, and I bought an ounce of C&D Autumn Evening to try out, since people seem to rave about it. Wish I hadn’t.
Anyway, back to the Sutliff in an estate calabash. Super nice combination.

That's a maple-flavored aromatic. Instead, try C&D Plantation Evening, which is an English blend:

I knew what it was when I bought it… it’s just worse than I thought. I’ve tried a number of English and Balkans and keep coming black to the Sutliff. I do have a dozen or so others around in small quantities, either for something a little different occasionally, or just a blend I bought to try out. Some are OK, some I just don’t like. Autumn Evening will sit around, get mixed in with other stuff, whatever.
My own VA and Samsun are… well… not ready for use, that’s for sure.

Some of my photos are not good (I don't have tobacco in my pipe, the angle is not right, no proper background etc.) and this is because i often rush to take photos in the cafe. Often my wife is also sitting with me, i tell her to keep the coffee-water in her hand or to put them aside so that i can take a good photo and due to my haste the result is not the best.
