The winds from the storm will be picking up tonight, so I stalk harvested all of the SSBM and all but one Bucak. (70 plants). The humidity will be very high for a while, so I'm running a fan to keep the air moving. I put the bagged Bucak and one Shirazi plant on the Lanai, the rest of the Shirazi will have to fend for itself, it's nowhere near maturity.

I'll probably transplant the Little Dutch on Thursday or Friday.

The tree across my fence is the only damage suffered at my home from Ian. We were without power for 30 hours or so. My papayas are kind of bedraggled looking, but they survived. Same with the Shirazi.

Transplanted Little Dutch yesterday morning.

The stalk harvested SSBM and Bucak are coloring up okay.

My rain gauge registered 5.4 inches, but it was over a 24-hour, or more period, so it had time to soak in before pooling. The wind is what's really scary this far inland.
That’s crazy! Good to hear your ok brother! I couldn’t imagine seeing or feeling that weather up in the Midwest. I hope you and your family and friends down there are ok.

Hey folks. It's been two weeks from transplant for the Little Dutch.

I decided to try for a sucker crop with the SSBM and Bucak, they are doing okay so far. I weeded out a dozen of them, that leaves me with 60 in the black fabric pots.

Papayas should start ripening soon.

All of the fall crop has been color cured and is currently in paper bags in my closet drying out.

My Little Dutch at 4 weeks from transplant.

Some of the sucker plants are starting to bloom already. I don't expect them to yield much. A sucker crop would probably do better from spring plants rather than fall due to the longer day length in the summer.

Still no ripe papayas.

I've been priming the sucker crop, not because they are ripe, but because of all the brown spots are causing the lower leaf to turn yellow. I'll cure and age them and see how it turns out just for the hell of it. Overall, I don't believe it has been worth the trouble to try for a sucker crop this time of year.

Little Dutch is at 6 weeks, should start budding soon. The LD in the close up is a little abnormal, it has darker, thicker and wider leaves than the others. It also had two growing tips before I pruned one off. I'm tempted to bag it for seed.

We got two new ankle biters recently, the other one is black and tan. They look nothing alike, they are litter mates, but evidently have different fathers. They are a mix of Jack Russel terrier and God knows what else.

The storm came ashore well North of us, we've had a little bit of wind and rain. but nothing severe.

On the spur of the moment, I rolled a puro backwoods style cigar from the Bucak that I harvested in September. As you can see, it's not pretty, but it's good enough for review purposes. I don't have any glue, so I had to hang onto it to keep it from unwrapping. It burned well and the smoke coming off of the cigar had a nice smell. Not a cigar type smell, but enjoyable nonetheless. It bit the tongue a little but was very smooth on the throat on inhale. I stopped smoking quite a few years ago but if I still smoked, this is something I could smoke regularly. Sometime during the next year I'll make some snus from it and give a review on that.

I'm pretty sure a bear was in my yard last night. Two large papayas were lying on the ground, one small plant was broken off and my bird bath was tipped over.

Little Dutch is in the button stage. I'm considering not topping them this time to try and avoid the prolific suckering.

Several days ago, I rolled up a carrotte from some color cured SSBM and Bucak sucker leaf. The leaf was frog legged and still in pretty high case. I wrapped it in a paper mold overnight, then just tossed it in the closet to age. I'll leave it there for a few months, then slice it up and see what it's like.

Topped the Little Dutch today at 8 weeks from transplant. The stalk heights after topping range from about 24 inches to 30 inches. Looks like there will be from 12 to 16 useable leaves per plant. I've already removed the bottom 2 or 3 leaves for better access to watering and feeding.

The hanging plants are my sucker crop of SSBM and Bucak. I harvested them several days ago.

BTW, happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
