Ok Guys and Gals, I'm about to do a little job outsourcing (but not without rewards to participants). I found some old seed in the freezer that I can't trace to any of the current US Nicotiana Germplasm Collection accessions. The good news is it all germinated. The bad news is that I basically don't have any info on these soon to be new additions. So get your Googling on and help me out. Participants will get first dibs on the seeds of these new lines when they are harvested later this fall.

Some of the new lines are (all N. tabacum):

AC White
AC Gayed
Mopan Mayo
Yumbo
Besuki
Partidos
Wiktoria

Bezuki is an Indonesian wrapper variety, mentioned in the thread on Indonesian tobacco. Large, Sumatra-type leaf. I have started some this season.

Bob

EDIT: should be spelled Besuki

see, I knew this was a good idea.

the seed I have is called "besuki" with an "s", but that could just be the way the French prefer to write it (the seed is by way of the imperial tobacco collection in Bergerac).

Mopan Mayan is an heirloom tobacco grown in Guatemala by the Mopan Mayan natives. Available at Sustainable Seeds: http://sustainableseedco.com/mopan-mayan-tobacco.html
Perhaps this is the Mopan Mayo?

I bought the Besuki seed from tabacanbau, a German seed site. It is listed as "Java Besuki" with an "s". http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tabakanbau.de%2Fde%2Fshop.php

Port Numbay, Indonesia, also spells Besuki with an "s":

I agree with forumdotobaco, Partidos is a section of Cuba. This is a link to "Tobaccoland: A Book about Tobacco; It's History, Legends, Literature" published 1922 :
http://books.google.com/books?id=reYWAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA159&lpg=PA159&dq=Partidos+tobacco&source=bl&ots=Vg4n5_Gocc&sig=2FjPMnaNj4EL-HuJrwFRSF0mQVk&hl=en&sa=X&ei=kqBNU6WUHerF2wXb2oGoBQ&ved=0CDYQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=Partidos%20tobacco&f=false
Partidos is mentioned along with Vuelta Abajo and Remidios as one of the great growing regions of Cuba.

"The Book of Wonders" by The Bureau of Industrial Education also speaks of the Partidos region of Cuba:

The Heirloom Tobacco Seed bank has listings for Yumbo (Colombia) and Mopan Mayan (Guatemala) with photographs and a description: http://heirloomtobacco.com/Seed_Bank.html

copy and Paste of Yumbo:
Yumbo Columbia

yumbo2_1ot1.jpg

Plant Class – Primitive
Form – Pyramidal
Plant Height (topped/un-topped) – 30”/24”
Flower Color – Pink
Leaf Length – 14” to 16”
Leaf Width – 9”
Days to Maturity – 50
Leaf Yield – 1 to 2.25 ounces
Sucrosester – 0
Nicotine – 18

The Yumbo native variety is an heirloom ancestral strain of sacred tobacco. It was reportedly collected from a respected ayahuaca healer of the Yumbo tribe in the Upper Amazon. Many of the Columbian natives tend to prefer chewing (“drinking”) tobacco rather than smoking. This Yumbo tobacco is much more potent than any commercially processed chewing tobacco. Chew with great caution, and consider that it is generally not recommended.

The people of the Yumbo are somewhat diverse, but their tobacco is a singular delight. This tobacco grows short and fat with broad thick leaves. Yumbo make golden flavorful natural tobacco rich, bright and satisfying. The color of Yumbo deepens after reasonable age.

Mopan Mayan copy and paste:

Mopan Mayan Guatamala

mopangarden5.jpg

Plant Class – Primitive
Form – Pyramidal
Plant Height (topped/un-topped) – 36”/42”
Flower Color – Pink
Leaf Length – 10” to 14”
Leaf Width – 6” to 9”
Days to Maturity – 50
Leaf Yield – 1.5 oz.
Sucrosester – 27
Nicotine – 28

This heirloom tobacco variety was collected from the Mopan Mayan natives who are one of the last remaining communities of direct descendents of the ancient Mayas. This potent tobacco is likely the true genetic strain employed by their ancestors, kept growing all these generations: a living heirloom. the direct descendents of the ancient Maya. It is a primitive plant type and an authentic ancestral strain.

This rare native tobacco has a distinctive sweet almost floral flavor. Is this the tobacco of the Maya Jaguar Shaman whose breath becomes sweet and enticing like the seductive jaguar’s is purported to be just before they devour their prey? It is my personal favorite among all varieties in the Heirloom Tobacco Seed Bank.

Partidos was acquired by the Bergerac Collection in 1921. It just says Cajarc, France under origin.
Besuki was acquired in 1989 from Java.
None of the others are currently listed in the Bergerac catalog. Perhaps you could request an older one?

I've tried polish tobacco a couple of times and it always disappointed me, leak of sugars, texture, size and they sell their tobacco right away after curing so tastes like oil mixed with grass lol , their main tobacco production is for cigarette tobacco, that variety grown in a good soil and with the proper sun hours would result in something completely different than grown in Poland

to my knowledge, those are the only two listed with Bergerac as the source (and I do have two different catalogs from them). these other varieties didn't come with any information at all, except that the AC varieties possess tolerance to black root rot. the Mopan Mayo and Yumbo information will be very helpful in verifying the identity of the varieties as they grow.

Wiktoria is a Polish variety. Here is a link discussing whether it's resistant to TSWV: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10681-013-0921-3

And another similar one:

http://repository.lib.ncsu.edu/ir/bitstream/1840.16/5868/1/etd.pdf

the first link is another good find. I can do a virus inoculation to verify the authenticity of the seed because Wiktoria has a resistance gene for TSWV.

the second paper is actually the thesis of a girl who I know because she was in my lab when I started as a grad student (and our adviser was the curator of the collection at that time). I wonder if she is the one who requested the seed.

Just as a precaution, I would verify elsewhere any statements made on the heirloomtobacco website. In the past, the owner of the site has been reticent to share any provenance of his seed, and fairly coy about the historical references. It might all be legit.
