Mods and Admins, please use the "delete as spam" option to remove these users. also select "physically remove" and "ban user".

I'll work on a block in the meantime.

Any member who sees a spam post, please report it as soon as you see it. To report a spam post, click on the little black triangle under the user's name.

Thanks,
Don

Just to clarify, are there any aspects of those users we should look out for? Or are they the really Blatent "buy Viagra now!!!!" kind of messages? I'd hate to report someone when they may have just had a Slightly off topic message

I don't think reporting a post will get a guy banned. It will just alert the Admins and Mods.

John is correct.

The tell-tail sign of a spammer is a user name like Uwpu9ugr0nru or Sbhhty444ududf

The rules state your user name must be real words...spammers don't read the rules.

All registrations have been shut off until I can install a fix. It should be finished sometime later today...like after dinner.

Hmmm, my username is not a real word, and looks a lot like those examples... but i'm not a spammer...!
Just a newbie tobacco grower! (who apparently didn't read the forum's rules...)

You were approved before you joined.

The program doesn't do the editing of users without real words in their names...I do. It make it real easy to find spammers...and I guess to some degree, people who don't read the rules ;)

I'm sure glad all you guys know about all this spam stuff.
The only things I know about spam is,
Spam on a computer, it's bad,
Spam fried on bread with cheese and mustard, not so bad.;)

For some reason, this thread got me wondering about the derivation of the name "spam" for bulk emails and bulk ad postings. Here's what some sources say:
Wikipedia said:
It is named for Spam, a luncheon meat, by way of a Monty Python sketch in which a spam hating restaurant patron is frustrated by a cafe in which the canned meat product is featured in seemingly every dish made.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_(electronic)

Online Etymology Dictionary said:
spam (n.)
proprietary name registered by Geo. A. Hormel & Co. in U.S., 1937; probably a conflation of spiced ham. Soon extended to other kinds of canned meat. In the sense of "Internet junk mail" it was coined by Usenet users after March 31, 1993, when Usenet administrator Richard Depew inadvertently posted the same message 200 times to a discussion group. The term had been used in online text games, and it was from the comedy routine in British TV show "Monty Python's Flying Circus" (beloved by many intellectual geeks) where a restaurant's menu items all devolve into spam.

So, there you have it. Spiced ham!

Whenever I have seen these type of posts I banned user.[ The obvious spam] and have been on the board and tried to ban immediately after another moderator banned or deleted obvious posts as no action could be taken due to post not being found.
