I finally got to try the organic Burley, at 20% it's still pretty nice, no toasting or casing. For me, that's quite a bit of Burley. I may have to rethink my statements about not liking Burley.
Yes. It's kind of a surprise, it's the first Burley that I've liked. 30% is a bit too much for me, 25% might be my limit for smoking all day. I shredded two representative leaves from the pound to work with, one lighter colored and one dark. I don't want to get into toasting, it seems fine as it is. If I was going to try anything, it would be to hang a few leaves in the kiln for a month. It may not make much difference, it's pretty nice as it is.
You're welcome, maybe I should thank you. I got the organic Burley and Maryland so that I could talk apples and apples, I'm glad that I did. Maryland may not be for everybody, but I like it, it goes well with the Turkish.
In the quantities we consume, never ending supplies aren't going to happen. If you find something you like, stock up.
I'm trying to buy large quantities of all Air Cured types so they can age before properly before being sold. The Burley is from 2013 crop, so it has about a yer of aging on it now. It's almost impossible to know how long I'll have this particular lot of Burley in stock, but this year's crop will be available in a month or so when it's done curing.
