planting distance

After one week of transplanting i have some doubts about the distances in and between the rows!
Does the transplanting distance also depend on the varieties (Corojo, Criollo, Dominican Olor, Connecticut Shade)?
In the row i transplanted the seedlings with a distance of 16 inches!
The distance between the rows is 24 inches!
Now i think it is much to narrow!
Should i change something?
I could root every second plant in the row, and i could root them in the parallel row, so that they are displaced by one! (I don't know if that is good english?)

All of the varieties you list are full-size tobacco plants. They should need around 24 inches between plants in the row. If you intend to walk between the rows, you will need at least 36 inches between them—preferably 48 inches between rows.

Okay Bob, thank you, so i have to do the unsacred work of rooting the half of the plants.
