A friend of mine mentioned that he was thinking about getting a cob after he got his new life insurance policy enrollment, his birthday is next month so I decided I was going to make him a pipe as a surprise, since he mentioned a cob I figured I would make him a pipe that looked similar to a cob so this is what I came up with
and as I was making it I kept sending him pics asking him questions about how he thought I should make this pipe so he designed his own pipe with out knowing he did so
here it is

Hey, Harry that's awesome. Your friend is going to be tickled to death to receive that for his birthday. I like the design very much. (My birthday is next month)

Thanks AK
I actually broke that stem , since I don't have a tenon cutter I cut off the preformed one and was drilling it to put in a screw in type and the stem slipped out of the jig I made to hold it and it rode the bit to the chuck breaking out a chunk on the bottom.... it was my last stem so I need to order some more and fit a new stem to this pipe, I figured I would finish the pipe any way, that way I would get some experience if I ever need to repair a broken stem on a pipe

I've been getting plenty of practice replacing stems. About every third stem I make I cut through to the dang airway and have to make a new stem for a basically finished pipe. PITA I'm trying to make them too slim I guess. I'm getting it figured out though. I should have stayed with acrylic longer, that ebonite is expensive. I want to cry when I ef one of them up.

Very nice work. Does the flat bowl base allow it to "freestand" with decent stability? I was thinking of attempting something similar so it could be set down without leaning against something or falling over.
