just ran across an interesting article about uranium in Virginia....probably the largest deposit in the world...I am no scientist, but what are the possible causes of growing tobacco where there are high uranium deposits?

could this be the link for cancer in tobacco? could a deposit 1500 feet deep leach out in the soil and water?

just wondering...

there article states that in a few places it actually comes to the surface....

There is no surface uranium in the tobacco growing areas of Virginia. There has been a moratorium on mining uranium in VA for over 20 years. Water quality has been systematically tested for many decades.

but if you google polonium you will find that it may be your link. it comes from uranium rich phosphate fertilizer. unfortunately, there arent many other sources of phosphates. one is burnt bone ashes, but they say there wouldnt be enough of it for the planets farming if you burnt every available bone on earth, even human ones.

its tobacco specific though, so maybe we deserve all the burnt bones.

I think cancer from tobacco is more from mechanical action than radioactive damage. Damage the same spot again and again, clog the bronchioles etc. Just mechanical damage. Everything in moderation.

The link to cancer is from the chemicals the tobacco companies add. Cancer was almost non existant in smokers until tobacco companies started adding "things" to their tobacco in about the 1920's.
