I've been rolling for about two years now and I'm wondering if any of you have attempted using ligero or viso filler as binder? I usually buy binder tobacco to roll but I've been noticing that the thicker grades of filler that I've been receiving appears to be good grade. I'm just curious. I'm going to do it either way but I wanted to see what others do as far as binder.

I have used every imaginable leaf grade as binder and as wrapper. Sometimes it works out just fine. Sometimes the leaf falls apart. But it's fun to try. Ligero as a wrapper is usually too intensely flavored for my preference (which is to have the wrapper milder than the filler).

Very true with the wrapper aspect. I would only use a thinner Leaf as a wrapper but I do see what you mean for a binder. Theoretically, you can use any leaf that can hold up with pliability. I figure I will mist it with distilled water and throw it in a bag as I would my wrapper and get the filler back to a soft nature. I will let you know how it goes. I can expect some bold flavor from the viso and ligero binder. I'm going to stick with my Criollo and corojo leaves because of that amazing flavor !

Absolutely. I like to encourage sorting through a bag when it's opened by body.
A leafs designation set by it's supplier in no means should limit any placement we choose.
A priming in one type of leaf should be considered as it's relation to another type of leaf as it goes into that cigar.
A viso of one leaf type would be consider as a ligero in relation to the other leaf type in the cigar.

I use all kinds of seco, and a few of my fave secos are my regular binders. But I've never used viso or ligero. I prefer to put the dark stuff in the middle and work my way out, lighter and thinner. If I had some blend I thought might be great with no seco, then I'd try it. The experimental possibilities are endless....
