DGBAMA also has a 2" thick foam board kiln that has held up to flue cure temps and beyond. He also uses it for kilning and air curing in a controlled environment.
While air curing, the leaf will handle slightly higher humidity if you increase the airflow. Try running a fan on the leaf during periods of high humidity. That might have been enough to prevent the mold you got. On light mold, you can mist the leaf with 50% water, 50% white vinegar, then dry completely. That has worked for me, the mold disappeared and after completely drying and then bringing back into case, I could not taste the vinegar.
