Squirrels are not only tasty and very healthy meat, but they have produced to the point of nuisance where I live - they ruin gardens, dig holes that horses stumble in (often breaking their legs... and I certainly value horses over squirrels), they are quite aggressive often negatively impacting other, endanger species and if you "cull the herd" you lessen the chances of rabies and other diseases decimating the population. I'm half French (where squirrel is considered a delicacy that sells of up to $50 a pound), so that may explain my tastes. But, think about it. If you were a wild animal, would you rather get old an injured, die of starvation, disease, be torn apart by dogs, hawks, foxes, etc, or die almost instantly from a hunter's bullet? Old age is not a pleasant state in the wild.

Hey, I'm hoping to kill a few bucks this fall too, but I have a knife I've been working on and could surely use a bit of antler for a handle. If you still have some to spare, may I put in a request? It should be a great knife when finished - made from an old bayonet blank, with a wave pattern on the blade (seems to be a good compromise between straight edge and serrated) and a good tip for skinning.

i just looked at the antlers, i have for this,

they are a set of antlers from a 8 point deer,

and should give you a very '' nice'' hand grip. when holding it [ after it becomes a knife ]

. perhaps, i'll get in a little earlier tomorrow, and i'll take some pics of them, with measurements,

but yeah i'll send them to you, since smokes dont need them,

im gonna try the hunting again in the morning [ no work tomorrow ]

i got in too late to go this evening,

Awesome - I'll PM you! FL isn't to far from GA, so I'll send you some venison jerky, sausage or tasso after it cures through the winter. A country boy can survive!

Wow that's terrible. When did you guys put down the horned helmets? When I think of that area I can't help but also trigger thoughts of Thor, Valhalla and Vikings! 50 a month for the "privilege" to defend your family?

Well you probably have a warhammer. I wouldn't want to get hit with that either.

Ohh.. You can't say you will use a weapon, or any other object, for defense, it would be confiscated no matter how many permits you have! It's gone downhill since women got the right to vote, they fall for the "for the sake of the children" and other emotional fallacies all too often:cool:

But we Vikings can still go berserk if it becomes necessary, you know, weapon or not:D

With the price of ammo as high as it is, you might try the best deer killing technique I ever found - drive a 1992 gold/champagne colored volvo sedan! I hit an average of 2 deer per year with that car - the insurance company finally totaled it. I don't know if it was the color or the profile or what, but deer would run right at it.

I agree - that is what game wardens should be for! They should ticket the wildlife as opposed to the hapless hunter or fisherman who forgets his license or doesn't make it back with his kill before dark!
