While we are on the subject of wrappers. Does a cigar have to have a wrapper? What is the purpose of it but to make it look nice?
Not just looks. You taste the wrapper cause that's what's directly on your tongue. You smell the wrapper cause that's what's directly under your nose. Tongue and nose are both essential to taste. Some people stop right there and never light the thing. General Grant, for instance, is said to have enjoyed his cigars unlit. This is easy enough to test out yourself. Stick one in and tote it around for ten or fifteen before you light. Some wrappers are real tasty that way; tangy like sungrown or san andres; toasty like PA broadleaf maduro; or my fave, the moody habano. It's the diff between lemon pie and lemon merengue.
