Just did some quick reading and it appears that the sandier soil will produce a lighter and more fine leaf while darker soil produces darker leaf. I am glad to hear this, I will supplement a bit of ferts and I should be having a nice light colored crop!

Your original post on African red is what got me interested! I love the spicier stuff. Yes I will be posting photos through the season. We have been doing plotting and it seems like most of the vegetables will be going on raised bed, much of the soil mixes between sand and clay. Does tobacco do well on sandier stuff? I am sure loamy soil is optimum but if I don't have enough space on the beds will sandier soil suffice?

it is a joy to see I've inspired, Yes I believe it will do just fine in the sandy soil maybe we can get another opinion on it. It is a flue cure - bright leaf.

Here's a close up of the Thuoc Lao, I think we can safely say it is not a rustica, but I will be even more sure when it flowers. But, it does have an interesting pyramidal shape. I wonder how that developed. There is a pic of Hopi Rustica in the background for comparison

It'll be somewhere around 120, I still got that alpaca manure ready to mix in, I'm pretty damn happy with it! Everything is getting bigger every day!

Here's an update on one of my patches. The African Red is undoubtedly the biggest plant yet, the others are ok but nothing too impressive in size. I feel they may have gotten a bit root bound before I transplanted them, or they are low in nitrogen, or something. I'm just having fun at this point! Note the Thuoc Lao, which is the the third picture. Interesting leaf structure. photo 1.jpgphoto 2.jpgphoto 3.jpgphoto 5.jpg

Look healthy. I think if you can open up the surrounding shrubbery to get them more Sun they will grow better.

It might be one of the oldest tobacco's there is to find , think I read that in FTT's seed Collection.
'' It's former name was Macrophylla Purpurea ''. End quote.
