Maybe it's growing conditions? I have two short rows of CT shade growing side by side. They were planted at the same time. One row is over 5' tall. The other about 18". Go figure it out. I haven't yet.

This fall I am going to take several soil samples and send them to Conn Ag. Based on that I'll fertilize and till. Then come spring I'll get another batch of samples and test again. Conn Ag will do 4 samples for free.

Yup wire through the midrib and put them in the rafter with a loop and nail, they hang with the slant of the roof.

your hanging job looks good,

and your y.t.b.

is going to be the best looking and quickest coulour curing leaf of all your strains,
>

your leaf can be packed a lot closer,

so if you get tight for space, just tighten the leaves up on your wire, once they brown up, you can bunch them up,

Thanks Chicken! It's about 100*F and 90% RH so I'm keeping them a bit spaced until like you said, it browns up. bottom 1/3 of priming of everything but the YTB totaled me 42 leaves.

Yeeeeah...I am already wanting that. I found out so about half way through the season. Next season I'll be planning a wedding/getting married/looking for a new job/possibly looking for a new house. HOPEFULLY I have time to grow tobacco

Hah! Good luck with that one. The wedding will suck you dry, and whats left over will go to the new house. I did the same thing four years ago...I didn't get much done that year. Don't worry though, it isn't a bad thing. You will be too busy to notice ;) Good things are coming your way.

I appreciate it Grundle! I will probably (if anything) keep the plot I have growing, try and get it in a bit early too. We both love to garden (I'm the fan of tobacco, she loves the Cucumbers, the Okra etc) so it'll give us something to do when we need to calm down...haha.

Hey Michibacy, just curious have you been watering your tobacco since transplanting to the ground? After about a week or so I stopped watering them, but we are having an unusually hot summer here in Michigan and I was wondering if watering would help any. My Yellow Twist Bud is growing sluggishly in comparison to my other strains.

I know a lot of people say just leave it, but I have watered it it really did help it spring to life. Don't over do it, but water does help. I do it just enough to keep the soil from getting "Cracky" considering this heat we've had. I haven't watered in 2 weeks+, but it's also rained here a bit which does help. The rain we got this morning only saturated about 3" though.

You are right, it is abnormally warm here this year, it's knocking out beans, corn, berries etc, but I tell you what, it makes good tobacco growing!

Yeah the 'baccy loves hot, hot, hot humid climates. Tobacco also LOVES water in the right amount, the right soil and at the right time. My crop is growing faster than I can get it cut and primed. The suckers are growing 3 to 4 inches a day with no fertilizer!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitch, no need to worry with raising a crop. You can trade what you've got now for the tobacco you want today.

I was in drought last year and had to water. If your soil gets to dry the roots can't get anything from it. They will wilt faster and yellow faster on the lower leaves.

I see any rain as ending for a while and I expect to have a major impact on my having to harvest due to full sun with high heat for 10 hours a day after tropical conditions the last few weeks.

BarG, I haven't watered my patch of TN90 for several weeks now and the lower leaves are beginning to yellow. I suspected that it was from a lack of water. Fortunately, we got a god dose of rain today here in Michigan and that should help. Now I just have to find the time to do some weeding.:)

I gave up on weeding Smokestack, the plants got tall enough that a lot of the weeds got shaded out and are little stubbies or just died off. Started to harvest my YTB lastnight, my next priming of leaves will be saturday for everything else. I plan to let the suckers grow on the plants and try to get a 2nd sub-par crop.

Edit: Also, I DO have hair....just a bit too blonde for the brightness of the sun...
