My window and balcony: 2024

Seeds started last night.
Late because of a family vacation that couldn’t be moved.
One flat (12 cells) of Drosgi Black-Blue,
3 flats of Kentucky dark tobacco sourced from Amazon, that did really well- stalk cured and noodle pressed for a
Month, made a gum-tingling-strong chewing tobacco with a great flavor.
More varieties will likely follow.

The Amazon.de Kentucky tobacco has sprouted, along with the Vallejano.
For a possibly dubious strain, I’ve had great results with the Kentucky Tobacco- hopefully pictures will help me get a better idea of what it is.

Transferred some overcrowded Drosgi Black Blue into bigger pots so I’ll have more starts to work with.

Kitchen window for morning sun: everything has sprouted!
(Even the small samples of MD609 and Hyang Cho)
Wife seems to get irritable around this season, no idea why.

Have you grown MD609 before? I grew some a couple of years ago and they did really really well,

MD609 was quite a nice plant in my climate, but Catterton outperformed it by a long way during the curing stage. It’s a bit stronger in flavour compared to MD609, and I like it better.

This is my 1st time growing MD609.
Never grew any Maryland variety before.

I regret to inform you that all Vallejano were lost to mold….
Small Stalk Black Mammoth and Little Dutch have taken up the banner, and will continue the fight against low-grade commercial tobacco.
Little Dutch has sprouted and is in small pots.
SSBM is still on the heating pad.

29 days after putting the seeds in the dirt:
(The bowl with the plastic wrap holds just sprouted Small Stalk Black Mammoth)
The tallest tray is the Drogsi Black-Blue.

The small black pots have Kentucky dark in them, and the gray 6-pack trays have a mix of Hyang Cho and MD609.

Attempts to start seeds with a thin layer of seed starting soil over a pot of orchid bark mix have failed.
The orchid mix is simply too dry, and it doesn’t provide a find enough substrate for the small seedlings.
Need to pay close attention to oldfellainspain, and his experiment with perlite under a thin layer of seed starting mix.

SSBM and Trabzon-2. Back ups since the weather is still bad, plus some window sill plants. Columnar oriental varieties do pretty well there.
