Golden Virginia (despite its name) is a blend of flue cured bright leaf and burley. My guess is 55/60 bright and 40/45 burley. And a bunch of chemicals. If you can only air cure, a 50/50 blend could be a good starting point. Use more YTB than MD609 if you prefer a stronger “throat hit” or increase the percentage of MD if you intend to add some kind of flavoring (MD strains in general are use by cig industry for their ability to absorb flavorants very well),
If I were you, I’d start with 40 Va 20 YTB 20 MD and 20 Basma, but I always preferred Camels instead of Luckies or Marlboros.

Let me ask you a question chaps. I think I mentioned before that I don't have a lot of space in my little garden so I'll be growing in buckets and large flower pots. I usually smoke a roll your own blend called Golden Virginia, I would say it's quiet a bold blend.
I also used to enjoy a pipe on occasion back in the day. I don't have the facility for flue curing and kilning unfortunately.
I have grown four different varieties, Virginia, Yellow Twist Bud, Maryland 609 and Basma.
So having said that, what percentage of what variety would you suggest I plant out?
Thanks chaps.
My cigarette blend is
45% flue or sun cured Virginia
20% Burley
20% Maryland
5% dark air
10% oriental
(it's also my most frequently used pipe blend)
Since you don't have dark air you could split that 5% somewhere between the flue cure, maryland and burley or add all of it to one of the three. You will need to play with the percentages to find your own favorite blend, but perhaps my blend can give you a general idea in terms of how much to plant. I measure my blend by volume rather than by weight. Basma will have smaller leaves.

Hello it depends on growing space and later curing leaves. In my case, 40-45 plants to obtain a minimum harvest to smoke. I love a lot the maryland 609 and virginia yellow is a must for pipe smoking. Basma like all orientals will add "magic" to your blends. If i was planting: 20 virginias 10 maryland 10 basma. Good luck with your season!

I'm always slightly envious when you chaps post photos of your back yards, for most of us Brits they look like fields, but, you have to make the best of what you've got. So here's some photos of my limited space grow in a bucket grow.

Another update, it's now about 3 weeks since I planted my seedlings out. Firstly here's some of my Basma,

Next my Yellow Twist Bud, these haven't grown as vigorously as the others
IMG_20220601_101637.jpg

Now my Maryland 609
IMG_20220601_101703.jpg

And the best till last, the Virginia. I bought these from EBay so unfortunately I don't know the variety,IMG_20220601_101732.jpg

What they need really is some good long warm sunny days but unfortunately we don't have many of those. Most days are like living underneath a giant inverted grey Tupperware bowl. But you never know, we may see the sun yet.
