I use a free app on my phone called "image shrink lite" to change the pic size to 800x400 before uploading. No more file too large message.

heres my problem downloading , its not easy and apparently doesnt work well. I take a pic with my phones camera, send that to my email because my data plan to try to send it here directly costs me and the whole touch screen deal sucks. I go from email to google file and then try to upload to the site which then says its too big of a file.

You don't say whether your phone is Android or what. On my MotoX android I installed the free PhotoEditor app. Crops, rotates, resizes, etc easy as pie. Then I use AndFTP to pump the file to a website. I post the pic by url and uncheck the box that says "retrieve file and reference locally". None of this costs and all is easy.

Android, presumably, as he's using Google. Normally your stock photos in your phone camera will come out at about 1800x3200 pixels. You need to reduce that larger number to 750 (and keep the lower in scale) for it to be uploaded to the forum. There are no 'factory' settings in your phone that will reduce the size - you are just really able to crop - there is no function to 'resize'. There are Google play store programs that you can install that will do this for you, like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shoozhoo.imageresizer&hl=en
You reduce the photo, then send to email and up to the forum.

You can't use Google from an iPhone? Or a Window$ phone?

Tellin you, google play store free PhotoEditor ... rotate, crop, resize, save as... easy as falling asleep at the wheel.

I love these smart phones. Pocket puters, is what they are. Last night, for instance, we were supposed to meet the step-daughter at a restaurant we'd never heard of. Pulled out the pocket puter, poked the microphone icon on it, said: "Tapa restaurant menu", and here came a PDF. Hit "directions" and here came a map.

Google Play store is for Android phones. If you have an iPhone or a Windows phone, most of the apps on it are proprietary, and will not cross over to Android or vice versa.

Well, helll, I know that. That's not what he was saying. He said: "I go from email to google file and then try to upload to the site which then says its too big of a file."

Won't an iPhone or window$ phone go to google file? This Linux box I'm writing you from right here will. Can you put a google chrome browser on one of those?

Regardless, I'll bet the same Photo Editor app has been ported to iPhone... you will prolly have to pay a couple bucks is all.

Here's some cigars, fruitcake, calc, and what looks like midget urinal cakes, which a feller sent to me yesterday. Snapped the pic right from PhotoEditor app, resized, plonked it on the web using andFTP, and voila:

Easy street. Took less time than opening the box, I can tell you that.

Ah! Claxton fruit cake. That is the holy grail of backpacker food. Not just fruit cake; only Claxton fruit cake. For home, slice it as thin as possible.

Good luck with all that camera stuff.

Google file is presumably Google Drive. Initially you needed an intermediary app, like Goodreader or similar, in order to upload you Iphone photos to, and then to Google Drive. On Windows, you needed OneDrive or similar. This may have changed....I'm using Android, so am not terribly up on the other platforms. However, as it turns out that he has an Experia....he is on Android :)

And sadly, I have led a truly sheltered life. I have never heard of Claxton Fruit Cake..... :(

Me neither. Though this may be because, soon as I hear the word "fruitcake", I figure someone is about to disparage me, again, and so I turn my ears off.

I can't see how it would be a backpacker's choice. The weight would bust yer tump line.

Good taste, and extreme calorie density is the explanation. So far as I have been able to determine, every Appalachian Trail thru-hiker (2000+ mile journey) loses weight--to a pathological extent--no matter how much food they eat. (One documented exception was a trained dietitian, who actually gained weight.) A pound of high-caloric-density food (especially if it also contains fruit and nuts and oils--and tastes wonderful) is a much better choice to carry, compared to the typical high-carb noodle stuff that most backpackers load up on.

Huh??? 2000 miles??? Are you sure that the pathology isn't the interest in doing such a thing? Now, however, when I sit down in front of the TV armed with an entire Sara Lee apple pie, ice cream and a fork, I will think to myself that I am in training for such a journey. The guilt will immediately disappear.....

My wife and I went to her aunts house for Thanksgiving. I usually take her uncle (the host)a stick so I'm not smoking alone. This year I brought 3 of my own handrolled perfecto sticks .I handed one to the host or course and then her step dad. Uncle gave it back with regret saying his ages ago cigarette habit he couldnt smoke cigars because of his habit to inhale but he did appreciate the thought. Step dad is a cigarette smoker and had a hard time lighting it ,I figured out it was a tad head-tight and after a little finger thumb roll I got it to open up a little . he ended up setting it down and I ended up finishing it along with my own. The cigar her uncle gave back I handed off to another uncle (her mom is one of 8 kids so theres a house full of women and a garage full of guys after the meal) who does like cigars. He listened in amazement when he found out I had rolled it myself ,after lighting it he told me many times during the session how impressed he was with it. smooth , nice flavor. well made. Great even burning .sturdy ash. only ashed twice . and what fell was firm and stood proud in the ashtray. Another older guy and his wife stopped in for a visit and when he stuck his face in the door ,quickly stepped in and took a deep breath ,smiled and said "ohh cigars!... it smells great in here ! wish we could stay longer" So, thanks again to WLT for a great Thanksgiving after dinner smoke.

Yes great story Harley. You must have been proud to see your work did impress and was enjoyed.
Myself on the other hand had rolled 4 sticks 2 days before the holiday and tried smoking them on turkey day. I was home alone and cooked a nice prime rib roast for myself but was disappointed when only 1 stick smoked well and was up to par. I guess I'm in a slump.
