I recommend a circulation fan (I used a bathroom poop fan) and if you are going to flue cure you will need a vent. The process of turning green leaf to yellow produces alot of excess moisture during the flue run. The vent will send it outside the chamber.
Should I have the fan constantly running or have it turn on and off with the crockpot?

Picked up my first estate pipe today, the thing looked like it had been left for dead, I should have taken a before photo. Completely refinished all of it, cleaned it, re did the rim, and filed down the stem because the previous owner completely bit through the button.

Some drug stores still carry a few Dr. Grabow and Kaywoodie pipes, usually hidden behind the counter.

Yes I’ve seen that I wish I could put a date on this one, I imagine it’s not too old but it’s not new either. The thing was absolutely too filthy black and dinged up to be new. There was a particularly nasty black layer built up all over the finish I would imagine was just from years of never cleaning it, let’s just say it was well loved.

I really had to heavily redo the rim on this one it was very convex and there was a major amount of chipage so I flattened it out the best I could. Anyways it was a fun little project I just wanted to try my hand working on something beat up and I needed something a little smaller to bring around with me than the other pipe I have now. I know grabows aren’t very expensive or uncommon but they seem to have a cult like following.

What would cause this I’ve seen a couple losses on my rustica I’ve put into cells. Maybe something got into them as I’ve been leaving them outside. It looks like they’ve been topped by something.

Took some of the ripe mud leaves off the shirazi and xanthy, towel cured them for two weeks then and then threw all of them in a little puck press for [other smoking herbs] my friend let me borrow. I should try to get a couple of these if it works out well, they are perfect for “sample size” plugs if you want to experiment with a bunch of blends at once and not have to commit to pressing a full size plug.
