Brown thumb, this year I took a 4" galvanized fence pipe and cut 4 slits about 6" up and shaped for a hole maker. A good stab in the ground works well to make a hole and often remove the soil for setting a plant. I still have to bend over though, to firm and water.

Actually I use a piece of 3/4 copper pipe sharpened on one side to puncture the plastic and plant the seeds in my veg. garden works pretty good.
Hah hah, I use a tiller for weeding between the rows. Besides, thats a hell of a long drive just to get my hands dirty. It would be cool to check out the woodwork on your house though, It looked interesting from previous pics.
