I planted my Virginia Gold late and have been priming the leaf's with good results but now I'd like to get seeds. The petals are falling off the flowers at this point and frost is anytime soon in Ontario. I'm thinking that on first frost warning I should pull up plants and hang them in the barn upside down with a bag over the flower parts. Will this work or should I just cover the plants overnight with garbage bags if there is frost warning. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm sorry to be in the wrong place for this question but tomorrow is possible frost for my Virginia Gold plants and I want the seeds from them. I'm planning to pull the plants tomorrow and hang them in the barn even though there are still some flowers. The only other option is to cover with garbage bags. Will the seeds work out if I hang the plants. I posted this question in the growers section a few days ago but I think it was not seen. Tomorrow is the day. Thank you for any advice.

Are there any mature seed pods?

Bob
Hi Bob, I just got your message but this afternoon I cut the plants at the stalks and hung them upside down in the barn. The seed pods were green but frost is almost assured tonight. I hope they will continue to mature and I'll be able to get some seeds out of this. Thanks again.
