Wasn't sure where to post this question. I smoke a pipe so I'll try here.

I purchased some gabba fronto leaf from LO over a year ago. I found out after the fact that it is normally used by pot smokers as a wrap. I haven't ordered from LO for about that long finding the sources on here much better and also having my home grown begin to be smokable.

The gabba fronto was strong and had a rank taste. I theorized that it was uncured and put a it in few jars in case in a warm place to see what happened. I just cracked a jar and... it's better but it still has a... different taste. I may be able to use it, I do like strong tobacco. I *am* wondering now what the heck this stuff is. I've sampled a variety of tobaccos now and this stuff seems to be a type of it's own.

So, what the heck *is* gabba fronto tobacco. Is there rustica in it? What variety is it? Where is it grown? Any information anyone has would be appreciated.

Here is a fairly nice description on a Finnish website: http://www.emelia.fi/wiki/index.php?title=History_of_Fronto,_Grabba_and_Fanta_Leaf_Tobacco

The terms, "fronto" and "grabba" and "fanta" are synonymous. They refer to a marketing category, much like the terms, "lunch" and "dinner". Fronto can be any variety of leaf whatsoever. If the vendor does not reveal the tobacco variety, priming level and curing method, then what you end up with is anybody's guess.

I consider Fronto to be of mostly wrapper quality while Grabba is thicker and stronger and often smoked in a pipe.
It's a decent leaf for making dip, snus and snuff but not that great for smoking straight, IMHO.

Fronto and Grabba are Dark Air cured types of tobacco. Mostly Green River One Sucker, but most other types of tobacco can be used for making marijuana cigarettes.

I would very strongly recommend against purchasing Fronto or Grabba for anything other than their intended purpose.

I have not been on in a while. Thanks to all for your answers. I found the year's aging in case at warm temps to strongly improve the case of the LO gabba front tobacco I have, but it still had bit of a funky taste. So, at least part of the issue was curing. Shame, since it has a nice, full, strong flavor generally. I still wouldn't recommend it, but I am finding myself to be more picky as time goes by so there's that. I'm finding lots of different varieties of tobacco which I find close to good, but no cigar, so to speak. I do wish there was a more active trading area.

What I have now is shredded. I had some which was still whole leaf which I gave to some co-workers who still smoke de reefer and they liked it.

Is any of the whole leaf still available?
