5 1/2 years later - this Maryland proves to be among the best in the batch of my first WLT (Whole Leaf Tobacco) sampler. It was a bit too wet and gummed up my shredder at first (so I thought it was crap at first - but nice smelling crap). Now I know to just air our anything that seems a bit too damp to shred until it is ready.

Anyway, last night when I was packing tubes I had some leftover Maryland mixed with a small amount of burley (which I was adding in small amounts to Virginia bright leaf), so instead of chucking it in the excess box, I rolled one up by hand and had it for dessert. It was absolutely perfect, just straight Maryland with a touch of burley. Very satisfying after a meal of the best (by my standards) homemade pizza in the world.
I've been trying to figure out what to do with the Maryland I have on hand. I'm going to toast some up tomorrow and try it out.

If you don't like it I have some Fire Cured for trade. This Maryland 609 makes my list for STR (strategic tobacco reserve) and I plan to get more to stash away in my attic real soon. Even with only a few weeks experience with whole leaf, it seems that the sellers frequently run out of stock, and this does not seem to be a marketing gimmick, but more like the natural vicissitudes of their niche in this business.

Thanks for the offer but I just toasted some up and am loving it. Red Virginia, Bright Leaf, light burley and toasted Maryland 609 makes a mighty good smoke.
Toasted M609 is my new favorite mixer.

I've seen that others do toasting too. I'll have to give it a try with the Maryland while it is in high case.
