I'll be starting seed in a few days. This year is an all seed grow out to refresh the oldest of the Nicotiana Project seed and to add new varieties to the FTT seed bank. Naturally I'll keep plenty of each for next year's Seed Swap thread. (DGBAMA had a great idea with that one) I'm growing the Golden Burley and Harrow Velvet for my own sample and taste to help me decide which mild Burley I want to grow for my personal grow next year along with a stronger Burley like TN90 or TN86. I've pretty much settled on Reams 158 for my Flue Cure variety and Maryland 609 for my Maryland. Izmir is my Oriental of choice for cigarettes. I also need to decide on a Dark Air or Dark Sun variety. I'll attempt to grow these for seed this year.

I filled out the seedling labels tonight. I quit writing when my fingers got tired, which was right after AST.

The sign says it all. Last season the sign said "I'll never do this again". My short memory keeps getting me into these things.

Thats a HUGE list!.

Including what you sent me, I have 53 varieties of seed; but unlike you, my solution must be figuring what to grow; I don't think "all of them" is a good option for me.

i looked on http://www.nwtseeds.com/ for reams 158 and it says it is a high yield,low suckering and air cures to a light yellow/brown. there are so many flue cured tobaccos to choose from. what made you choose that tobacco over all the other choices? i still grow a few different ones. i have a hard time making choices and usually add more and complicate things further. sometimes i can't figure out what makes me decide on some of the choices i make but other choices i actually have a reason to try them.

The Reams 158 only grows to 5' but has huge closely spaced leaves. (Jules Verne leaves lol) I can work or top or bag a 5' plant easily from my wheelchair or four wheeler. In spite of it's height, it's a massive producer. The leaves sun cured to a beautiful yellow, orange, red, gold, brown color. The flavor was equal to or better than any of the flue cures I grew last year. I grew around 45 varieties last year with the majority of them being flue cure varieties. This was my favorite. Also, before last season started, I asked Skychaser which were his favorite flue cure varieties. GL 939 was his number one with Reams 158 and 401 Cherry Red following close behind. (Sky grows a ton of varieties)

Reams 158 is a really good plant. So is Oxford 207. It is very similar in both its growth habit, size and production to Reams. Both mature fairly early and air cure to a bight yellow color. Gold Leaf 939 is a great plant. It blooms in about 60 days but it takes longer to ripen than Reams or Oxford. GL939 is a heavy producer. It grow to 5' - 6' and is very uniform from plant to plant. Suckering is quite low. It ripens evenly and can be primed in 2-3 batches. It takes quite a while to age when air cured but is worth the wait. It would be an excellent choice for flu curing.

You're a lucky man. My wife doesn't even smoke but she wants me growing all I can handle to keep me out of the house! I have no idea why.
