Criollo 98 "Prieto" (center 5 plants) seem to be happy in the front yard...

I finally made time to plant the other Duzce in the raised bed. Adjacent to the Ducze (Istanbulin) that were planted a couple of weeks ago, I added 20 Ducze " Spicy Acres" and 15 Duzce Pi 494152. The latter two varieties are still pitifully small, so I hope that some fresh dirt will be invigorating to them.. .

I still have room for ~ 20 more orientals in this bed. I have Prelip and Izmir seedlings, and I'm trying to decide whether to plant one or both in the remaining space. Thoughts?

Plant both! Prilep needs little spacing, and it’s always nice to have something different to add to your blends.

Criollo 98 comparison grow... 3 plants on the right are from NWTseeds (originally sourced from Nicaragua). The plants on the left are grown from seed obtained on the Prieto farm in Cuba.

Those look good. I like that plant shape, too, especially combined with the pointy tips.

Ok, the Orientals bed is complete. The right-most four rows are newly planted tonight with 10 x Izmir Ozbas and 10 x Prelip (both from NWTSeeds). I think the planting phase is over for this year. ..

It's supposed to hit 100 degrees here by the end of this coming week and I'm a little concerned!

I'm impressed... Every one of my plants perked up after the sun went down... Still no need to water. I'm letting nature do its thing.

Mother nature gave us a light sprinkle this afternoon. The plants certainly don't mind. For the first time, I saw a few suckers on the bigger plants...

My first round of Duzce (Istanbulin) are starting to develop flower heads at 18-24" in height. Is this typical of "traditionally" grown orientals? I purposely have not fertilized or watered these plants...

I planted some Duzce in 2014. It bloomed at the 42 day mark.

Interesting... how tall did your plants get? Mine seem pretty small, but I have no experience growing Turkish.

I didn't take any notes on size, just bloom time but I seem to recall they were on the small side, 3 ft or so.
