Hey JBD, did you take those away from an angry mob? I think the French used those tools to bring the royalty under proper control.
The bottom one is what I was taught to call a "corn knife" and I raised a few blisters using one. I can't find it any more and I sure miss it.I usually have me some of them french fried pataters when I'm done cuttin'.. mmm hmm

Apparently it weighs 1 pound, and the steel blade is Teflon coated. I'll bet that it works very well for stalk harvesting, and lasts a long time.

You need to hold the stalk so you have to put one of the handles aginst your leg.Probably the safest way to go in a crowded patch. You're probably going to have to stoop down to get under the lower leaves no matter what tool you use. I can see limb loppers working very well.
