Glad to hear that you escaped with no damage. Here on the Mountain, all the fresh oak leaves are frozen, dry and brittle. It will take them a month of warm to recover, and for the present the fire danger is increased. Will be at least 80 degrees today, and the wind comes back on Saturday or Sunday. Watching San Diego with a sinking feeling. Let me know when you need more Latakia, glad you are enjoying it.

I have to pop some cups and thin again. #1 is Black Mammoth, #2 is Bursa, #3 is Silver River, #4 is Samsun Maden, #5 is Silver River in a bucket. This is how well they grow in plastic cup green houses here. Now it is time for most of the cups to be gone. They were tray starts from the sun only.

Yes, a humingbird moth.( has a dif name) Known as the horn worm moth . No they are transplants from trays. I take the cups away. Then pop the bottom leaf off, And push the dirt to just above the leaf mark and water. They will put on more lugs, but on this batch I will pop them as well. I will post pics tomorow when I do it. Remember I have to plant different here than every where else. The cups will work any where that the temp is over freezeing. Pref. over 40 Deg. It went to 37 Deg this week and the pics are after the cold spell. I will take a pic. of the side of the cups tom. the ones You see are over the top.

There are many types. they camo in the green of the area they come from. I hate that. I hate to look under the plants where they hide to eat. Some clown here posted local garden snails for sale. Said they make great pets and great garden protectors. I'm going to look tom. and if it is still there, I'm flaging it. Craigslist. What a d*mb a*s.

Every One -every where! They eat from the top down, and can devistate one plant in less than a day. It is hard to find them, they stay under the bottom of the leaf. Most of the time You will find them when it is to late.

You can spray BT for hornworms. A daily inspection for any new holes should catch even the tiny ones. Also look for hornworm poop on the leaves. Hornworms tend to appear in waves about 3 weeks apart, usually 2 or 3 times each season.

I haven't had any yet, The grass hoppers fly in waves here now. They are comming in the house as well. If I see a problem with them, I will spread some talc on the plants.

What do you mean "IF" they become a problem?

I spread Semaspore bait down most springs. It wipes out the hoppers pretty good.

I don't worry about the talc. I put it on My feet. And as far as washing off- It has to get wet. LOL That is far from it here. WE ARE IN A NO RAIN FOR US zone. I don't worry about the F2G or the talc as of now, It will be long gone by harvest.

baby plants 008.jpgbaby plants 008.jpgbaby plants 004.jpgbaby plants 007.jpgbaby plants 003.jpgJust came in from taking off the cups. Works great. No hopper damage to control yet. Last pic is from the street looking in. Everything green is by paid water. Notice the color of the dirt here, lots of blow sand and wind. The City pays You NOT to water here, They call it zeriscape ( put rocks in Your yard)

Well folks, More bad news for Me... The 10 acre plot is gone..( RIO) All I found was a few empty trays and no plants... Called the buddy and He said that He didn't want to bother Me that He had to go out of town. HUM? The GREAT thing is "I'M STILL IN!!!" I have My wife and the little plot in the yard.. I have over 300 plants here now and prob. 60 or so back ups... Going to start some in the morn. to get the grow done. LOL Can't blame any one here for not wanting to grow. It cost to much to grow anything, let alone pay the water bill. I spent almost all of My ferts on the outher plots and did not save much for My house plot for Linda. I have 1/2 of a pint of F2G and zero of anything left. So now it is old school for Me Guys. I ran water for over 13 hrs. and it looks like a min. of use. Around 3,000 gallons plus.. WWAAA! $$$$$$ So folks Amonia and FFG till I get something going on LOL I AM STILL IN !!!!!!!!!!!
