Ppl. find out backer is a lot of work. But you still got a nice patch.
You have got that rite Boboro. I will have more than I will use this year. I was after the seed harvest to send out as well. Got to see exactly what I have in the house plot to post. I planted from one to ten of most that I had held back for back ups LOL Now to back up My back ups. HA HA HA Now Linda will have to look at seed bags. Hope She don't mind with all the poor judgement I made this year. At least I can see what is going on with the plants here and not worry about some one trying to help.

10 acres? Wow. I put my producing plants at the away garden and doing grow outs at home so I can give them extra attention.

Planting more starts tom. Can't cry over another Mans doings. If I had set it up better I would have had the one square mile spot for all of them. I will post what is here and also what I am starting on #3. LOL The ones I am re starting are for seed to give back for My grow. And make Me happy. LOL HA HA HA However the # 3 starts will only be 3 or 4 of each- One to keep and 3 for backups. Now it is a race!
This made Me feel better today seeing it.last card read 599.jpglast card read 600.jpglast card read 598.jpg

As I said that I would get the pics. for My bucket set ups that save water. The dead-sert way.
Line one is 2.5 cl of hole (drain)
Fill bottom of bucket to above the hole with pea gravel.
Line two, Put a wick of burlap down in the pea gravel for a water wick, Mix sand and the area dirt or garden mix up to line two holding the wick up on the fill.
Line three, Fill to line four with potting seed starting mix. Then after the plants are at the four leaf stage, Place comon dirt from Your area on top. Then arange them where You want. I planted Black Mammoth below the drain holes for the over flow.bucket starts 006.jpgbucket starts 004.jpgbucket starts 001.jpgbucket starts 003.jpg

My AG buddy was correct.Grass hoppers every where, eating everything. Makeing a spray as I post.
Four tablespoons of jar Garlic
a squirt of dish soap
4 tablespoons of oil
and after the boil and strain- 1/4 teaspoons houshold amonia
Going to spray in a reg. spray bottle.
They hate garlic and the oil will hold it fast to the leaf, the dish soap will allow the spray to mix.

I forgot to mention as desertpipe said, We had some rain here. At this location it was .05 inches. I added some water to the plants befor I water them to show how fast it is gone, and the diference in the color of the soil wet and dry.

NO, Any and all topo ferts, poisons, powders or any thing put on it is gone far befor harvest. Just don't put any thing on it 2 weeks befor prime and "hose" the plant 2 weeks befor as well. ( bird crap, bug pee, and Your pee as well as dog pee.) LOL Never had a problem with any topo's on the plants. Same as tomatoes and vegies.

Mad, only a few of the hoppers showed up here on the Mountain, and the last two mornings had frost on the vehicles. They did not last long.
We have had almost two inches of rain and a bit of hail in the past 48 hours.....more then we had in the first 4 months of this year.

if you got horn worm moth's allready you better get you some BACILLIUS THEROGENIOUS ...the main ingrediant in poision designed for killing the moth..and worms.

those hornworms will destroy your crop very fast...

my first crop was a sucess. until the worms came and ate it all up.

We had drizzle here two nites in a row. None stayed more than a few moments. 57 deg. was the lowest at night this week. humid. was 82% at time of drizzles. It is at 23% now. Strange how the weather is here in NM. Go figure We have an ice cave in the lava beds that never thaws out in the desert that gets in the triple digets all sumer. No signs of horn worm yet, got the hoppers under control. Even the weather up at Stag is 15-20 deg. different desertpipe. LOL

Mad, I have been waiting with interest for further posts on your grow. Thought of you when I watched the local CBS weather guy Roncetti tracking a huge cloud of hoppers with the weather radar. Never seen anything like it, and neither had he. How are you making out with these critters reaching Biblical numbers?

I had some damage befor I could cook up the garlic spray. They are at bay now. I will post some pics on this swarm. I took pics at dark last nite, and the tobacco looks happy. The hoppers are all over and when You walk the fly up in swarms in Your face. They are the small brown ones. My spray is the bomb as well as the fert. recipie. The FAST2GROW works great on the leaf as well.

bucket starts 038.jpgbucket starts 034.jpgbucket starts 032.jpgbucket starts 039.jpgbucket starts 022.jpgYesterday it was 107 in the sun and 102 shade, with 8% humidity here. This is how well the tobacco takes that type of heat. The T-stat shows 102 under the shade. I also took pics. of them last night to see how well they do after dark. They point to the sky and no bugs to be seen that late. Mad-
