Thank you very much! I do suppose that I could be mother henning them just a bit. BigBonner probably gets a real hoot from all of us babying our plants the way we do.
I think they look fine. A few shriveled leaves...so what. Cut'em off n move on. They appear nice n green n perky. Some look like they are ready for the garden. Nice plants Levi.

image.jpg I got to feeling guilty enough that I am up at 10:30 PM transplanting my Düzce plants they were waterlogged and root bound. Not a healthy winning combination for my rarest variant. Shame to me...

image.jpgSamsun-Maden top left Costa-Rica 589 top right. These guys are super sticky and almost smell illegal. The leaf structure is amazing. I’m falling in love with orientals. The Semois is a rather wild looking plant as well. Bottom middle in the glass container

Costa-Rica 589 make a really nice smoke. Kind of rich and a bit woody, but still mellow. It's one I actually liked and would grow again. It is also known as Iztepeque,

I deep tilled the existing garden plot and I am eager for the expansion to get underway. This week I will be borrowing my bosses tractor and tiller to cut up the yard. My wife loves this idea. I also took all of the plants outside and introduced them to the real world. I figured since it was overcast outside that they would begin acclimation well. Samsun-Madden didn’t like it nor did Costa-Rica 589. Most of the others did well but there was some wilting going on. So after a couple hours everyone went back into the house. I just couldn’t stand it and had to plant something so three Lemon-lemon plants went into the ground. They have looked sickly yellow about there whole life so far. I have clay pots that I am going to place over them at night. They are planted at about three ft. which I feel is wasting space but I have yet to come up with a solid layout for my official patch. I believe the Lemon-lemon is a N. Rustica variant judging by leaf shape stem thickness and the massive amount of hair growing on the stalks and stems. The plants are still suffering from spotting and I am beginning to wonder if it’s a disease called brown spot. Questions, problems, learning, success and failure it’s all part of it. I feel like I should be much farther along in my knowledge and experience but all great things take time.

I got the new plot tilled in yesterday. It took me all morning and several passes with a tractor. I can only imagine having to do that task with my Troy Built Pony aka THE KILLER TILLER. The fence still needs put up. However, it’s almost time for everything to be put in the ground.

Very nice looking plot. All of my 5' x 12' beds added together to make ~1000 ft[sup]2[/sup] (until I allowed several to go fallow). I till all of it with a spade. Not particularly fun. But breaking well established sod is easily five times as much work as just tilling the beds each season.

Thank you gentlemen for all of your nice comments. After stepping back and looking at it I thought to myself oh my I’ve got my work cut out for me. I am truly hoping for those big leaves China. My biggest worry right now Bob is after tilling all that fresh sod under I’m wondering how much the battle with the grass is going to be trying to come back up. I’ve got close to a foot of till in most areas such as the old established plot and in the middle. Not so deep around the outside. I will have to be extra vigilant for the next two or three years to not allow for Grass to come back up and take root until it gets established. I have considered getting all of my vegetables in and all of my tobacco in and then putting straw down. However if I do that in grass starts to come back up again I’m going to have a heckuva time working that straw into ground

I’m starting the hardening off process this week. I’m also going to let the new garden expansion sit a few days to kill all the fresh tilled sod and then I will till it again. Here’s a pic of my lovely wife holding up our largest Düzce plant.

You're clearing doing something that the Duzce like! That is an impressive seedling!
My Duzce from the same source are also starting to take off. They are the only tobacco plants I have that have developed a notable stem while still in the starter pots. Nice work!

Allright, so far up north and ready to plant. more power to you.

You will battle other grasses and weeds forever , trust me you will overcome my friend.

Keep plowing and keep tilling and definitely keep planting.
