Re: 67'dodge d200.. or 57' chevy apache c-10 [ my 2016 project]

perhaps i should have measured the hood. versus the leanght of the hood scoop.... the scoop was damn near as long as the hood was,,,lol...

based on what i did to a datsun truck... you can only imagine what the apache will look like in 10 years,

my goal with the datsun... was to make a removable top for it making it a convertable.... i was going to have a small block v-8 installed in it.. i'd done talked to the shade tree mechanic that was going to do it.. i had my eyes on a 289 ford motor... and i was gonna put a heiland blower on it, with 2 ,,,4 barrells,

i was gonna make it look for speed. and it would have had it if i needed it... but im not heavy on the gas pedal. '' just for looks ''
i had a narrowed 9 inch ford reaerend a guy was gonna sell me for 700$.. i had all the irons in the fire,,, and was gonna install them one at a time.

you can just imagine how crushed i was when i laid eyes on it.... when it was on fire, i took the rest of the day off. and laid out for 3 days. and stayed drunk/ and high. at that time i smoked a lot of weed, but i dont do the weed no more, '' i grew up ''

lol... thats funny...

well the guy called me tonight and we had a chance to talk extensivelly about the truck

ITS A 1960 chevy apache. it has a inline 6 cylinder. and it ran when he parked it there, it has a 3 speed... it has no bed on it. but it comes with a lot of extra parts he has... a tranny... clutch housing alternator e.t.c.

apparantlly this guy used to raise 200+ hogs.. it was used as a farm truck to haul feed. and from him.. he said bring a battery and hes confident it will crank up... he said a while back a guy bet him $20.00 it wouldnt crank. and he said he pocketed that 20 bucks.

the front end is sound he said before he parked it had all new front end parts put under it.

IM GOING WITH THE APACHE.... the dodge can keep getting rained on. i like the hood style of a 61 i hope they are interchangable... because i wont that hood.

Har! I should have recognized that was not a '57. never really looked past the bushes in the photo before the dodge caught my eye!

now that i see what you are really working with, that chevy could be pretty trick when you are done.

here is a little upskirt on my last build. I'll get some outside photos one day soon for ya.

The old Chevy straight six engines (I recall there were several different displacements) were high torque and indestructible. It's likely either a 235 or 261 cu. in. And there's plenty of room inside the engine compartment to either side of the block.

Good luck with it.

just looked it up THEY ARE INTERCHANGABLE....

and they are available...$65.00 for '' good '' condition

$250.00 '' perfect '' condition

im gonna be on cloud 9 all weekend,

i think im gonna go over there next saturday and do some ''hard looking '' at it... he said he'd hook the tractor to it and drag it out in the open. and if by chance my work sends me that way next week. im definatlly gonna make a detour and go look at it. its about 60 miles from my house

real good pictures coming next weekend.

IIRC, 261 is a gmc truck engine and has far superior cooling jackets in the head... it would probably be difficult to find a good head for a 235 now.
I liked the 250 chevy 6's. More power than the 235's and no cooling probs. 292 motors were just a low rpm truck motor... not so good at high rpm/speed, but very strong motors.
SBC is really the way to go for an old truck, with all that room in the engine compartment, IMO.

The ratrod crowd is really having a lot of fun with the old barn finds...

he said it was high geared.. gotta give it some gas '' taking '' off. but stated it would wind out pretty good.

im sure the first thing im gonna do as far as motor wise is concerned is to rebuild it with high performance parts,, i was hoping for a inline 6 .. thats what i wanted. im not really a tire burner, i dont desire a big block. and all that horsepower. after trying it. i may change the rearend gears.. 70+ is as fast as i want to go.

70+ is also inclusive of 100, 120 and more....:)

i was in germany during my military stint... and had my fast times on the autobahn.

the only time i have a need for speed. is when im in the semi... and its time to go home. and im 120+ miles from the house,

If the Dodge is a 3/4 ton it will probably have a Dana 60 rear end. Worth the price of the truck, probably lower geared than the chevy, and absolutely indestructible.

I've seen front suspension/steering from 91-95(?) Ford Crown Victorias put under old cars and trucks pretty easy. Those cars were fleet vehicles and used for cop cars, city workers, state, etc. They are everywhere and cheap. The whole unit unbolts from the Ford and with a little modification you have modern steering, suspension and disc brakes up front. Fast and Loud on Discovery Channel (Gas Monkey Garage) did that mod on a dodge truck just like that one. You might could find it on their website.

Edit: Found part of it: http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/fast-n-loud/videos/ol-dodge-pickup/

I just read the 57 chev apache in the header. Lots of work but it will be a nice truck when you get it finished.

well i went to the truck today... and it looks great.. no frame rust... the inside is perfect minus the rat droppings. and a bird nest. the dash is perfect no busted plastic. the gauges are excellent. and the fuel tank has had its cap on it [ allthough i will take it out to clean it ] i did notice the back glass has major cracks so im gonna have to replace the front and back glass. but the doors windows are flawless/ its really in good shape for me to bring back to life being its 55 years old.

i couldnt get under the hood. the mechanism was rusted. and i dont want to have to beat my way into it. so that can wait till i get it in my yard. from my research im pretty sure it has a straight 6 235 motor, the shifter is on the floor,

heres some better pics of my future baby
